However, around age nine, Kit began to gravitate toward texture and color. He hated the stiff fabrics his father wore and began secretly collecting discarded silk ribbons and soft wool scraps. The shift was gradual but permanent. By middle school, Kit began incorporating "feminine" elements into his look—softer silhouettes, subtle jewelry, and pastel tones. There were no screaming matches or dramatic confrontations. Instead, his parents simply withdrew. They stopped putting his photos on the mantel and stopped introducing him to their colleagues.
