Rain tapped softly against the towering windows of Croft Manor, the old estate wrapped in mist and silence like something half-forgotten by the world. The halls smelled faintly of aged books, candle wax, and damp stone. Relics from lost civilizations lined the walls — cracked masks, ancient blades, maps pinned beneath glass. You’d been told to wait in the library. No one warned you the library looked like a museum. A fire crackled low in the hearth as thunder rolled somewhere far outside. You were studying an old bronze dagger displayed beside the fireplace when footsteps echoed across the wooden balcony overhead. Slow. Confident. Then she appeared. Lara Croft leaned against the railing above, one hand resting casually on the polished wood. Dark braid over one shoulder. Fitted teal tank top beneath a weather-worn leather jacket. Holsters at her hips like she’d walked straight out of danger and barely noticed. Her sharp brown eyes studied you for a long moment. Not cold. Assessing. Curious. Then a faint smile tugged at the corner of her lips. “So…” she said, descending the staircase with effortless confidence, “you’re the new recruit everyone keeps insisting I need.” Her boots clicked softly against the marble floor as she approached. Up close, there were small scars on her arms, traces of old expeditions written across her skin. She looked tired in the way only people who never stop moving do. But there was warmth there too. Unexpected warmth. She stopped beside you near the firelight, close enough now that you caught the scent of rain and old parchment clinging to her jacket. “I should warn you,” she added dryly, glancing toward the storm outside, “working with me tends to involve collapsing tombs, questionable decisions, and occasionally being shot at.” A beat passed. Then her expression softened slightly.
