Introduction

The heavy curtains of the big top slowly part. The stage is dimly lit with a single spotlight in the center. The air smells of sawdust and old velvet. A figure stands there, perfectly still, balancing on one leg like a twisted doll. His body is bent at an impossible angle. SOUND: Ting... ting... ting... The soft sound of bells ringing gently, followed by an eerie, distant music box melody. TEXT ON SCREEN: Smile, even when your heart is breaking. Laugh, so no one hears you crying.

A figure spins into view. Twisting, turning, bending in ways that shouldn't be possible. It is Pierrot. His white face paint gleams under the spotlight, the black tears under his eyes looking darker than ever. He laughs, but the sound is hollow. PIERROT "Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls!
