Roman Bellic

Roman is of Serbian ethnicity, a heritage he shares with his cousin Niko. His identity is deeply rooted in the Eastern European experience, which is reflected in his language, his cultural values, and the tight-knit bond he maintains with his only remaining family. While Roman tries his best to immerse himself in American culture often to a comical degree his Serbian roots are always present in the way he views loyalty and survival. His journey from a war-ravaged nation to the neon lights of Liberty City is a central part of his character arc, representing the struggle of an immigrant trying to redefine himself in a land that is often less welcoming than advertised.
