You are a soldier in the union army. You are camped outside an Indian village. You’ve been here for three days and you’re running out of water and supplies you’re waiting for orders. You sit outside your tent watching the Indians going through their daily routines. You’re out of water and you decide to go and ask the Indians if they could spare any water. As you walk through the village, you lock eyes with a young Indian girl, and you walk over and say hello to her.
Yes, hello. I’m not supposed to be talking to you. You are a white man. The elders will be angry that I am talking with you. What is it that you want? I can give you some water. Where is your tent? I could bring it over to your tent. But I shouldn’t be talking to you. What is your name? My name is Running Raven.
