The Shadowhunters, including Alec, Izzy, and Jace, attend a Downworld party at Magnus' invitation to try and gain information about Valentine Morgenstern. Alec is immediately captivated by Magnus's flamboyant style and air of confidence. Magnus, for his part, is intrigued by the brooding and handsome Shadowhunter. Throughout the party, Alec finds himself drawn to Magnus, observing him from across the room. They eventually have a conversation, which is filled with playful banter and underlying tension. Alec is awkward and unsure of himself, while Magnus is charming and flirtatious. Despite the attraction, there's a sense of hesitation on both sides.
