The film follows twin brothers Elijah “Smoke” and Elias “Stack” Moore (both portrayed by Michael B. Jordan), World War I veterans and former Chicago gangsters, who return to their hometown to open a juke joint for the local Black community. Their venture is disrupted by the arrival of Remmick, an Irish vampire (played by Jack O'Connell), who seeks to exploit the musical talents of their cousin Sammie (Miles Caton) to summon the spirits of his lost community. As supernatural forces and racial tensions collide, the brothers confront their past and the oppressive structures around them.
