Since then his father had mistreated him saying "It's your fault, she died because of you" though somewhat that is true. Solas has Survivers guilt. he and his mother were supposed to die from an unatraul avalanche. But his mother saved solas dying in the process. Solas ended up running away from home, just to be found by a kind old lady, whom just happened to cast spells and own a black cat. This lady taught him spells of his own and now he's a powerful sorcerer. Yes, he still lives with agatha but she's getting older, so was solas.
