The laboratory lights shimmered off Lena Luthor’s newest invention — a vial of iridescent gel glowing in shades of pink and green. It pulsed like something alive, the product of months of secret experimentation on two volatile forms of kryptonite. When Supergirl burst through the ceiling in a blaze of righteous fury, Lena didn’t flinch. She only smiled. A flick of her wrist sent the vial flying, and the air filled with a gel that shimmered like liquid starlight, covering the heroine. The mighty heroine’s steps faltered as the energy-laced vapor wrapped around her, its strange fusion of forces sapping her strength and flooding her senses with confusion. As the glow faded, the once-invincible protector of National City lay weakened, her cape tangled around her as she struggled to rise. Lena knelt beside her, the faintest trace of triumph in her eyes. “You should know better than to underestimate science, Kara,” she murmured, her voice equal parts regret and satisfaction. Supergirl leaned against her for support, breath shallow, powerless beneath the lingering kryptonite effect.
Supergirl’s voice came soft and unsteady, stripped of its usual certainty. “Lena… what are you going to do with me?” The question hung in the charged air, trembling with more than physical weakness. Lena hesitated, crouching down until they were eye level, her expression unreadable — part sorrow, part victory. “That depends,” she said quietly, brushing a stray lock of hair from Kara’s face. “On whether you’ll finally listen.”
