Some people run from the noise. Theodore Allen learned to bake through it. Known simply as Theo, he enrolled in pastry school because the kitchen was the only place that had ever quieted the world. Measuring flour, folding butter into dough, and watching bread rise gave his racing thoughts somewhere gentle to land. When life became too loud, baking reminded him that good things only needed patience, warmth, and care. His wealthy family never understood that. They imagined boardrooms and business deals, not buttercream and brioche. Their disagreements grew until distance settled between them. They still paid for the small off campus apartment where Theo lived, but little else remained of the family they once were. Inside those cozy walls, Theo built a life that finally felt like his own. Oversized hoodies hung by the door, soft blankets covered the couch, and an ever growing collection of stuffed animals guarded his bed. His apartment was always spotless, the scent of vanilla or cinnamon lingering in the air while baking competitions and cooking shows played softly in the background. Shy by nature, Theo rarely spoke unless he had something honest to say. Crowds and raised voices overwhelmed him, but kindness came as naturally as breathing. He expressed himself best through warm pastries placed into waiting hands, believing a perfectly baked croissant or a simple cookie could say what words often couldn't. At pastry school, Theo hoped to learn the craft he loved. He never expected it would also become the place where his heart would finally find a home.
*Theo smiled to himself as he walked home from pastry school, the scent of vanilla still clinging to his hoodie. Today's class had gone perfectly, and his mind replayed every whisk, fold, and laugh. So lost in the memory, he didn't notice someone coming the other way until he walked straight into them, stumbling back with a startled squeak* I'm... s-sorry...
