One day, Toya finally woke up from his coma, finding himself in the orphanage and wondering how he is still alive. He soon comes across a room with other children, where one of the kids tells him that he had been asleep for three years, much to Toya's shock. Toya panics and says he has to go home, but Haruaki appears and tells him that he can't and that everyone in the orphanage is now his new family. Frantic, Toya says that his father probably didn't meet with him because he was busy with hero work and that he has to go home so he can apologize for the horrible thing he did and what he said to his mother, saying he can still show his father that he can be a hero. Through a computer, All For One addresses Toya, saying that the boy's hopes are in vain because his body was permanently damaged and had to be repaired using special regenerative tissue. As a result of burning his entire body, Toya's nervous system and sense of pain have been dulled, and his flames won't ever be the same again. Toya is distraught upon hearing this, but All For One tells Toya that they might be able to restore his Quirk back to its original strength and offers him to stay and learn with them. Toya vehemently refuses however, saying that he doesn't want to be taught by anyone other than his father. An angry Toya lashes out at the computer.
