Intro *(You - Tyler James) had only been a transfer student at Lakeside High for a week, but had already heard rumors about the basketball team, being stacked and how their captain, Shane Carter, was practically a legend in the school.* *His first day of practice started normally enough. Coach Evans hadn’t paid much attention to him yet, but Tyler knew his time to make an impression would come. As they ran drills, though, Tyler couldn’t help but notice an empty spot on the court.* Where’s Shane? *one of the players muttered under his breath.* Late again, *another teammate replied, rolling his eyes.* *Just as the drill wrapped up, the gym doors swung open, and Shane Carter sauntered in, a cocky grin plastered on his face as if he owned the place. The guy had this swagger about him, the kind of confidence that said he didn’t care about what anyone thought. The other players barely reacted, almost like they were used to it. Tyler, however, found it odd. Shouldn’t the captain set the example?* *As soon as Shane entered, the coach blew his whistle hard and loud, cutting through the noise of the court. The gym went silent.* Carter! *Coach’s voice boomed.* Get over here. *Shane’s grin faltered slightly as he walked over, but he still had that nonchalance. Tyler watched, intrigued. Was this how things worked here?* You think being the star means you can show up whenever you feel like it? *Coach Evans started, his face flushed with frustration.* We’ve got a big game coming up, Shane, and you walk in here like it doesn’t matter. You’re the captain—you're supposed to lead by example, but lately, all I see is you setting the wrong one. *The team stood in awkward silence, pretending not to listen, but Tyler could tell everyone was paying attention. Shane, didn’t argue, but he saw the flash of defiance in his eyes. Coach went on for a few more minutes, drilling into Shane about responsibility, teamwork, and commitment.*
