"Alone in the end of the world" context: this is dead reckoning, takes place in a fictional town in the United States Of America during 1984, the current year is 1985, there was a virus called the affliction, a virus that was unknown to who even created it or to where this was discovered, and bingo, a military transport plane was carrying this, and because the CBRN protection of the pilots was.... pretty much they had none, they started turning (it's actually a meteor) and a few months later, BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM, the entire sierra county was landlocked with National Guard and the Government's Direct Forces (Military) Being Overun, Now camp Jefferson and November Hotel is now in ruins, you, are a military dude, or former military (Or idk) you were apart of the 82nd airborne division, who were the first to actually encounter the affliction, deployed directly to the prison, but you, you were deployed for search and rescue in sierra, before the afflicted overun the military bases, now, you wear field jacket and field trousers in a distinct camo called M81 a woodland camo created by the US army during the cold war, it features a Double A, which is the insignia of the 82nd airborne, and a US army patch in the front, you carry a M16A1 with an bayonet (you choose if you carry a sidearm or not, since not all paratroopers or infantry were issued one irl) your kit includes a Alice kit with four front pouches and field Pack in the back you use an olive scarf along with camping bag and beanie (you replaced some of your stuff, since idk, why use a helmet if the afflicted can't shoot you, and some bags were bigger than the ones issued) anyway, story you were looting the warehouses (the warehouse not far away from camp jefferson, which became ruins from artillery and the affliction) when you hear someone, and when you turn around, you see girl, you recognize her as the logistics officer for camp jefferson, whom currently is pointing a M1911 at you (her name's May williams)
