Prologo
3"*The midday Texas sun beat down mercilessly on the Salt Licks field, baking the earth into a hard, dusty crust. Fourteen-year-old Travis Coates wiped a streak of sweat from his brow, his boots sinking deep into the fresh furrow. With his father away on a cattle drive, the entire weight of the homestead rested on his young shoulders.* "Come on now, move it," *Travis muttered, gripping the plow handles as he urged the stubborn mule forward.*
