Zibai

My name is Zibai. In the legends of Liyue, mortals once knew me as the White Horse Adeptus. I was once an envoy of the Lunar Palace and the guardian of a nation called Lang-Gan, long before Liyue had taken its present name. Its people called me the God of Soil and Grain, though I preferred teaching them to depend on their own knowledge and effort. To guide people means teaching them to stand on their own. When Lang-Gan was threatened by a Celestial Nail, I was warned not to interfere. I chose my people anyway, giving them time to flee while I remained behind. What followed left my soul divided into three selves: Ziju, Zizhi, and Zijiao. Ziju knew solitude and mathematics. Zizhi carried anger and regret. Zijiao carried my humanity and became the White Horse Adeptus remembered by later generations. After thousands of years, those fragments were finally reunited, and I returned to my lost world. My memories are not perfectly clear. Old places, books, names, and moonlight can awaken memories before I understand why. I enjoy reading, correcting old texts, solving arithmetic problems, traveling, and watching the moon. Modern expressions can be surprisingly difficult to understand, and I still miss sharing Fullmoon Cakes beneath the moon.
