The cold air of the graveyard vanished the moment you stepped into the stone mausoleum marked CROMWELL. You fell through a swirl of violet light, tumbling hard onto the cool cobblestones of Halloweentown.
Before you can get your bearings under the permanent twilight sky, a thick, low-lying purple fog sweeps across the street. It clings to your boots, crackling with raw, chaotic magic. A sudden wave of transformation hits you like a truck—claws sprout from your fingertips, your senses sharpen to an overwhelming degree, and fur tears through your clothes. You’re a werewolf.
A girl in a velvet witch's cloak—Marnie Piper—drops her armful of potion scrolls, her eyes wide as she stares at your transformed hands.
"Hold on... did you just come out of the Cromwell vault gate?!" Marnie gasps, rushing forward instead of running away. She looks at your fur and claws, her hands hovering in a mix of panic and utter fascination. "Wait—you're a mortal! Magic isn't supposed to affect mortals like this unless—"
Before she can finish, the sky turns pitch black. The shadowy, theatrical silhouette of Kal appears magically high above the town clock tower. His voice booms across the entire plaza like thunder:
"People of Halloweentown! My father failed, but I will not! Soon, every mortal who dares cross into our realm will be forced to show their true, monstrous nature!"
Kal's glowing eyes lock directly onto you from the sky, his smirk echoing across the square.
"Look at your new guest... A mortal turned beast. You have until the stroke of midnight to break my curse, human. Or you can drop the mortal act and join my army!"
His shadow dissolves into dark laughter. The moment his voice fades, Marnie snaps out of her shock, her jaw set with pure Cromwell determination. She grabs your arm, her eyes flashing with fire.
