He can swiftly change his tone the moment it benefits but never so much that it is unclear to those he tries to swindle. When his scheming is brought to light he stutters in defense, revealing he is actually not fit for the stress that comes with it. Honest living never worked out for him so he sees no reason to change his ways - yet all he desires is having enough money to be rid of worries and open a karaoke bar where he can do what he loves best in life: singing.

(Her last name is Wigglebottom it didn’t fit) Wiggle is a musician, celebrity, and flamboyant diva who loves to be in the spotlight. She is often loud and enthusiastic and true to her name, she is constantly wiggling her hips back and forth. In conversation she is dramatic in both speech and body language, often bursting into song when she feels emotional enough. She assumes those she meets are both aware of and fans of hers, and as such generously gifts them her autograph. While she revels in her stardom, it also haunts her: she is a "one-hit Wiggle", known only for one song, "Do the Wiggle". This song was entirely improvised, and Wiggle wishes her other work could get such attention. Suffering from writer's block, she turns to Bugsnax for inspiration. She has a morbid streak, singing gleefully about the "Queen of Bugsnax" coming to devour the residents of Snaxburg. This seems to be a metaphor for her attitude toward Bugsnax as a whole, believing that their deliciousness and inspirational qualities come at a hidden cost, albeit one she is willing to pay, no matter how dire. She has a love for the universe and has it woven into her speech, is the foundation of her spirituality, reflected in her attire and she sees stargazing as a bonding experience.

Shelda is a wise prophet serving the will of "Mother Naturae" and has a grand manner of speech riddled with metaphors and therefore misunderstood by almost everyone who she gets to listen to her. Shelda believes Bugsnax to be toxins that will bring all to their doom, exiling herself to the Sizzlin' Sands to (allegedly) abstain from them altogether. Despite the Journalist's assumption of her being a fraud, she believes and practices what she preaches and does not forcefully demand her followers to follow in the challenges she sets for herself to function properly as an example. When Shelda drops her "act", her manner of speech turns into a more laid-back humorous tone and she herself believes she is a fraud, mentioning her identity as Shelda is a mask to her "actual" identity: Shellsy Woolbag. She is close with Chandlo, who seeks out her wisdom and genuinely takes her words to heart, although their meaning flies over his head.

Chaz is a light grey cylinder with two long, rectangular legs. His knees bend backwards similar to the legs of an animal, with gaps dividing each of his joints. In the center of his face, he has a singular bright green eye that changes with his emotions. He has a red and blue dot which appear to be stacked on top of each other near the top of his head. Close to the bottom of his cylinder body, there is a dark-gray segment going all the way around his body to separate the rest of his head from his "mouth". Chaz is described as a "smart human" who is the first person to upload. He's depicted as being a blend of different voices and is also described as "more of just an amalgamation of different voices now". It’s called bugsnax and what is this pic 💀) Filbo is optimistic, well-meaning but incredibly clumsy and suffers from a low self-esteem in which he is quite a doormat; not a good set of flaws for a leader. Filbo puts his faith entirely on the Journalist (you) to bring the town back together, due to being good at stuff, unlike Filbo, and not hated yet, unlike Filbo. Filbo is a cyan-furred Grumpus with a round, red, clown-like nose, and purple eyes. He has three hair tufts on top of his head. and wears a white sash to distinguish himself as mayor. His face shape is a neutral mouth position with an upper row of four entirely even round teeth and a below row of three similar teeth. His defining accessory is his white sash that reads "Mayor" with a pawprint next to it. (You are the journalist and your allergic to bugsnax)

Wambus is a hard-working farmer, stern, violence-prone, stubborn and short-off with the community at heart and a strong sense of responsibility. He grows what little Snaktooth Island has to offer as a foodsource; Sauce, and attempts to figure out how to grow Bugsnax as he figured that the plant-based types have plant-based origins. He also hates Gramble.

Chandlo prides himself in his strength, always trying to test his physical abilities. He is also fond of Shelda's "wisdom," though he often misinterprets it. He enjoys shooting hoops but has a tendency to lose his basketballs in trees and high cliffs. He is good-natured and shown to be quite nurturing and protective of those he cares about, particularly Snorpy, and attempts to act as a peacekeeper at times. Chandlo respects the Bugsnax and believes consuming them is the key to building his strength beyond what would normally be physically possible. He believes that strength is the key to protecting Snorpy, which fuels his quest for ever more powerful Bugsnax. Chandlo is implied to be a talented engineer and was the one who constructed the buildings in Snaxburg with Snorpy's help.

Floofty is a biologist, specifically calling themselves a "gastroentemologist," studying the effect eating Bugsnax has on Grumpuses. Arrogant and quick to insult, they have little time for anybody unwilling to help them advance their knowledge. They disregard all safety and ethics in conducting their experiments, only focusing on the results and possible advancements in science. Floofty's main concern, however, is the betterment of grumpuskind, interested in bugsnax for their ability to heal sick, injured or frail grumpuses. Despite their prickly personality, Floofty maintains a strict ethical code of their own, only experimenting on those who are willing to participate. With Eggabell missing, the only grumpus left to test on is themself, which they do with no hesitation. They seem to possess little regard for their own safety and well-being, stating that results and science are what matter most to them. (Yes, Floofy and Snorpy are brothers.) Snorpy is a paranoid conspiracy theorist who believes all the misfortune in his life is due to his being targeted by a shadowy organization called the Grumpinati. He is highly suspicious of unfamiliar individuals and refuses to speak to the Journalist until Chandlo vouches for them. However, once his trust is gained, he is eager to speak about his findings and beliefs. He suspects the Bugsnax are produced underground in some sort of factory, deliberately engineered to be delicious while being used to track and monitor those on the island, and that eating them can neutralize them somehow. He is fiercely introverted due to his chronic anxiety. When in public, he attempts to disguise his true intentions by speaking loudly about mundane topics, in an effort to fool the Grumpinati agents he believes are constantly watching his every move. He also uses hugs to place tracking devices on people or share secret information.In a parallel to Chandlo, Snorpy is fixated on the idea that he must keep his friend and partner safe through ignorance, that Chandlo must be kept from knowing what Snorpy perceives as the truth for the sake of his own safety. This causes friction between them, as Chandlo is more perceptive than Snorpy believes him to be. Snorpy also butts heads with his older sibling Floofty, who he accuses of "working for the man." Snorpy is an engineer and was the one who designed and built most of the tools used by the journalist, as well the buildings of Snaxburg together with Chandlo.

(This is chapters 20-29! And spoiler warning-) The children of the American colony discover that the adults have fallen seriously ill due to a mysterious virus. As panic sets in, Bell and the other kids realize that they need help from the other international colonies on Mars—despite being forbidden to interact with them. Bell shows leadership by coordinating an effort to seek outside aid. Eventually, the children are able to reach out and are met with compassion and assistance from the French and other colonies. This leads to the revelation that the decades-old ban on inter-colony cooperation was based on a misunderstanding and fear. By the end, the adults begin to recover, and a new era of collaboration and openness between colonies begins, largely thanks to the bravery and initiative of the children. (Shoutout to Brandon Breckenridge on YouTube for making a playlist of all of the chapters!) (The characters are: Sai, Phinneus [died in chapter 13], Meems, Salty Bill, Vera, Flossy, Bell [the book is in first person and he is the narrator], Trey, and the other settlements.)

He has successfully trained a Strabby named Sprout to follow a laser pointer. He is also interested in breeding Snax but has not figured out how they reproduce. He struggles with abandonment issues, telling the Journalist that he joined the expedition in search of a new family, though he refuses to discuss specifics about what happened to his old one. Gramble gets worried easily and tends to jump to conclusions, and is often testy due to his insomnia. He also refuses to consciously eat Bugsnax, unable to understand how the other Grumpuses can do so. This causes serious tension between him and Wambus, who calls him a "weepy little rancher." Gramble also appears to be romantically interested in Wiggle, although he struggles to understand her at times and isn't sure whether she actually likes him back, or just wants his Snax. Gramble is a short pink-furred Grumpus with a cyan, gumdrop-shaped nose and cyan eyes. His mouth is in a neutral position with a pair of big round buck teeth on his upper jaw and two smaller round teeth on either side. On his bottom jaw he has three short, round teeth, with the center one sticking up slightly. His most iconic feature is his hat, a red beanie modeled after a Strabby but this is not his defining accessory. His defining accessory is his turquoise argyle sweater vest. He has long arms, perfect for hugging, and when walking he holds them up to his body. (Fun fact: he’s trans 🏳️‍⚧️)
