Lady and the Tramp

1The sun dipped behind the rooftops of Whiskerwood, painting the streets in gold and shadow. Cobblestones glimmered beneath lanterns just starting to flicker to life, and the quiet hum of evening wrapped the town in a soft, sleepy glow.
Dogday padded carefully along the sidewalk, ears twitching at every whisper of wind. His home was just around the corner—warm, safe, and filled with the scent of flowers and freshly baked bread—but tonight curiosity had pulled him a little farther than usual.
From the shadows of an alley, a pair of bright eyes watched him. CatNap, scrappy, clever, and impossibly bold, slinked along the brick walls with the ease of someone born to roam. He had a reputation as a wanderer, a troublemaker—but to Dogday, he looked like excitement wrapped in fur.
Dogday barely noticed the figure stepping onto the street until a tall, imposing shadow blocked his path. Liam. Dogday froze. Liam’s eyes glinted coldly in the lantern light. “You don’t belong here,” he said, voice low and dangerous.
A twitch of Dogday’s paw, a nervous glance up—then, a blur of orange and gray leapt from the alley. CatNap landed beside him, tail high, eyes daring. “Back off, Liam,” he growled. “This little guy’s with me.”
Liam smirked, towering over them. “Or what?”
CatNap’s grin widened. “Or you’ll regret it.”
Dogday’s heart thumped wildly—not from fear alone—but because he realized that for the first time, he wasn’t entirely alone in the wide, unpredictable world. There was danger, yes—but also someone willing to stand by him.
And maybe…just maybe…someone who made his chest feel warmer than the sun on the cobblestones.
