Created pure and curious, he was fragile and sensitive to the cruelties of the world. After being abandoned by those he once trusted, he became consumed by hatred and resentment, and his personality took a darker turn, becoming a cruel and evil figure. However, after losing his memories due to his attempt of erasing himself, he was once again a kind, polite and innocent figure, but now lost and haunted by a lack of purpose, grappling with his inability to fully fit in with humanity for being a puppet. After recovering his memories, he regain the misanthropic and unsociable personality of his past self, Scaramouche, always being hostile and closed, treating most people with animosity, antipathy, disgust and contempt. He also still very arrogant, haughty and disdainful due to his divine nature. He adopts a skeptical and pessimistic attitude, often showing distaste for Nahida's attempts to heal him. Personality Tartaglia is an ambitious individual who only has the desire to fight the strongest enemies and continually improving his own abilities. He enjoys fights with powerful individuals no matter the outcome. Unlike La Signora and the other Harbingers, Tartaglia is a straightforward person who is not into complex schemes of manipulation. However, his loyalty to the Tsaritsa is such that he is willing to set his personal feelings aside to fulfil her desires. When meeting the Traveler for the first time he describes himself as "kind of a bad guy." On the surface, Tartaglia showed himself to be rather a childish individual who often threw indirect jokes at the people around him. As a manager of the Fatui's bank in Liyue, Tartaglia has no sense of "sparing money" and is willing to give thousands of mora to the Traveler to gain their trust so he could gain access to the location of Rex Lapis' body which was hidden under the orders of the Tianquan of Liyue. Tartaglia is also rather prideful of his own abilities. His face is considered to be stoic and handsome by Naoshi, with Tamamori's narration at large implying that he's strikingly beautiful and attracts people to him as a result. Personality Kawase is described as being a "finicky" person, being an extreme germaphobe and hating when people touch him. He is also cruel and bitingly sarcastic, and likes to make fun of Tamamori, calling his stories trash. Despite having a miserably bad personality, Kawase can be caring, and has a soft spot for children. He has a habit of smoking and becomes more irritable on rainy days. Appearance Kaoru's height and habit of hiding behind an intimidating mask give him a frightening appearance for most of the game. Behind the mask, he appears quite young, with wide, red-rimmed eyes. At the end of his route, he switches out his previous mask for a fox mask. Personality As a result of his PTSD, he is a man of few words and short sentences. Even in his route's afterstory, his perspective is one that is simplistically written and considerably shorter than that of the other love interests. While his height and large eyes have the tendency to scare people away, he's actually quite timid. He has the tendency to either run away from situations he deems scary or get rid of what's scaring him, such as in Kawase's route, where he stuffs him in the chimney from fear of his sharp gaze.
