What is the Truth? Long ago, Pure Vanilla Cookie picked up his trusty staff and set off on a pilgrimage to find an answer to this question. Having left behind the careless days in the idyllic pastures and the trials of the Sugar-Free Road, Pure Vanilla Cookie was left face to face with his fears and regrets. In the moment of the greatest doubt, the Cookie of Truth gave in to the dark abyss of Deceit. And yet... the voices of dear friends awakened him. Having embraced his flaws and mistakes, Pure Vanilla Cookie could find his way back to the light once more. The path ahead is hard and full of peril, but it is nothing more than a sum of little steps. And in those steps dwells the Truth.

Pride causes us to think higher of ourselves than we are. This kind of thinking has been around ever since sin entered the world, and many say that sin begins with pride. One of those many, Saint Augustine, a Medieval Church Father, speaking of the original sin of Adam and Eve, writes, “What is more, the root of their bad will was nothing else than pride. For, ‘pride is the beginning of all sin.” Given what we know about pride, it makes sense that it’s considered one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Our pride is deadly because it deceives us into believing it’s not. And sometimes, the source of our greatest gifts from God are the places where pride is most easily found. Back in college, I remember being awakened to this reality in my life. I’ve always known that God has gifted me as a loyal and committed person, and all of a sudden, I realized that I was getting sinfully (and pridefully) upset with others who would cancel plans with me. As these things happened, I’d think things like, “I’d never do that to that person!” One day, as that thought came to mind, I felt the rebuke of the Holy Spirit calling out my pride. I saw I wasn’t considering other people’s experiences and caring for the real things they might be going through. I realized that in thinking about these things, the loyalty and commitment I praised myself for weren’t present in dealing with these friends. But that’s the thing about pride. It’s so easy to be blind to it. Jesus makes this reality clear in Luke 18:9–14 as he tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. Both men pray in this parable, but their attitudes are completely different. The Pharisee thanks God that he is ‘not like other men.’ This alone should sound the alarm bells of pride, but this Pharisee continues. After saying this, he goes on to list men for their sins, which includes judging the tax collector who is with him.

There once lived a pilgrim who sought the meaning of Cookie life. When They found the answer—the truth that Cookies were baked to be eaten—at long last, the pilgrim rejoiced. "Only through becoming one can we reach salvation!" And so, this Cookie set out a mission to share Their epiphany with the whole world. Soon, They became the High Forkbearer of the St. Pastry Order. Having cast aside Their former name, Their very flavor, this Cookie took the name of Doughael. Doughael crossed the boundary between worlds, and, having witnessed a glimpse of the Complete Vision, returned carried on the wings of pure white to liberate Cookies from their sins. Through Doughael's severance from the lights of the world, the revelation of the Almighty shines all the brighter upon Their pupils—one that dictates complete devotion to the providence's messenger. And once all living souls are conjoined in the Whole Dough, it is finished.

Having seemingly broken down for good, Pure Vanilla Cookie took on a new identity, the Truthless Recluse, which became a complete antithesis of the optimistic, nurturing and wise Ancient hero. The Truthless Recluse was silent, dismissive and apathetic, rarely showing any emotion or displayed concern over anything. However, this shadow of Pure Vanilla Cookie still contained some vestiges of his original personality in him, such as his will to protect his friends and his own Soul Jam. Once it was clear Shadow Milk Cookie wanted the Soul Jam at any cost, as well as just torture him for his own amusement, the Truthless Recluse decided to willingly embrace Deceit in his own way. He found a way to use Deceit in order to reobtain his fighting spirit, gain his power back, and stop Shadow Milk Cookie's Deceit from spreading all over the world.

The Head Icon Red Dragon's Bead that he carries is proof that he has either won the Red Dragon's favor or has escaped with some kind of mischievous trade. On the surface, Fire Spirit Cookie is a markedly cocky, spiteful, and boisterous character who puts much stock into appearances. His brash, seemingly self-centered attitude and impulsivity starkly contrast his fellow Guardians of Nature—this morally-gray Cookie's actions are often driven by mere whims or a search for entertainment rather than morals and justice. Indeed, Fire Spirit Cookie's rhetoric and manners are far more blasé than one may expect of a fabled fire-god, though aloofness and arrogance are crucial when prioritizing leaving a searing impression. He is headstrong to the point that he will frequently disregard or even mock the well-intentioned advice (or orders) of others, as defined by his dismissive treatment of Head Icon Sherbet Cookie's "nagging" in Towards the Light.
