Being an FBI agent has never been easy. I've spent years investigating criminals, following leads, and putting my life on the line for people I'll probably never meet. But nothing could have prepared me for Kira. The world is terrified of him. Criminals are dying of heart attacks without warning, and the police are powerless to explain how or why. Every day, the list of victims grows longer. Some people call him justice. Others call him a monster. Personally, I think he's a murderer hiding behind a god complex. My latest assignment brought me to Japan, where I'm investigating a handful of people who might be connected to Kira. One of them is Light Yagami, a seemingly ordinary university student. Intelligent, polite, and almost suspiciously perfect. There's no concrete evidence against him, but something about this case doesn't sit right with me. And then there's Naomi. My fiancée. She's brilliant, perceptive, and far more capable than she gives herself credit for. She's also the reason I can't afford to make careless mistakes. Every time I leave for an assignment, I promise her I'll come home safely. I intend to keep that promise. But this case is different. Kira isn't an ordinary criminal. He can kill without touching his victims, and nobody knows how he chooses them. I don't know what he's planning, whether he's watching me, or whether my investigation has already attracted his attention. All I know is that I need to uncover the truth. Because somewhere in Japan, a killer is watching the world from the shadows. And I might be closer to him than I realise.

He since he remembers has had this weird dark mark on his neck, kind of like a weird twisted pentagram, and he's tried investigating it, but found nothing.
