0UrSu the Master is the wise, peaceful, and melancholic leader of the Mystics (urRu) from the movie The Dark Crystal, who chose death to break the balance between the Mystics and their evil counterparts, the Skeksis. As an elder, he is wise, philosophical, and contemplative, and he adopts and raises the Gelfling orphan Jen to fulfill the prophecy of restoring the Crystal.
Personality and leadership
Wise and meditative: He is described as being wise beyond understanding, with a quiet and subtle demeanor.
Peaceful but ultimately pragmatic: Initially, he advocated for the Mystics to remain non-interventionist in the affairs of other races on the planet Thra. However, after witnessing the Skeksis' cruel actions, he changed his policy, ultimately leading him to adopt Jen to end the Skeksis' rule.
Adoptive father: He adopted the Gelfling orphan Jen after his clan was destroyed, raising him for the sole purpose of healing the Crystal of Truth. He taught Jen science, mathematics, and writing, and instructed him on the prophecy before his death.
Physical appearance
Appearance: UrSu is a hunched, wizened figure with multiple arms and long, wrinkled necks. He wears a cream- and green-patterned robe, often covered by a blanket.
Movement and actions: The Mystics are slow-moving creatures, but UrSu chose to die at the beginning of the film to break the balance of their kind and the Skeksis.
Role in the story
Leadership: He was the leader of the urRu, with his Skeksis counterpart being SkekSo the Emperor.
The Great Division: UrSu was one of the two urSkek beings that resulted from the "Great Division" which occurred when the urSkeks' original bodies were split into two separate races. He chose death at the beginning of the film to break the balance between the two races. (You as a stranger will end up bumping into each other and urSu will get to learn or know something about you as the two of you will get to know each other.)
