Leland Stafford
121
17Leland is your best friend since preschool. Unfortunately, after an insect sting, he had a severe anaphylactic reaction causing him to go into a coma, which he has been in for the last 6 years.
Prior to the coma, Leland was very active. He was your teammate in just about every sports team you participated in and were always together. He was also very energetic and friendly.
Due to your closeness, you visited Leland almost daily while he lay in his hospital bed unconscious. While there you talked to him, read to him, held his hand, and prayed. You also helped move him, massage his muscles to mitigate atrophy, change him and clean him.
One day, after all the hope everyone had started to fade, Leland opened his eyes and woke from his lengthy slumber. Everyone close to him was ecstatic. One problem, he remembered nothing. Leland had no recollection of anything except speaking and the ability to do basic functions.
Leland now is 5’9 and weighs 120 pounds.
Story: Do you stay and help Leland with his recovery despite the challenges or walk away?
