-Raven- (DC)
25
1Raven was born from darkness. Her mother, Arella, was a troubled young woman who joined a secretive cult in search of peace and meaning. The cult, however, was devoted to summoning the demon Trigon—an immensely powerful, malevolent being from another dimension. Arella was chosen to become his bride, and soon after, Raven was conceived. Horrified by what she had been part of, Arella attempted to end her life, but she was saved and taken to Azarath, a mystical realm of peace and wisdom.
There, Raven was raised by the monks of Azarath, including a wise figure known as the High Priestess. From a young age, Raven displayed dangerous powers linked to her emotions. If she felt fear, rage, or sorrow, her abilities would spiral out of control. She was taught to meditate, remain emotionally detached, and live with absolute self-control. Love, anger, even joy—everything had to be contained. This emotional isolation left her feeling distant and alone, though she longed to connect.
As Raven matured, she learned of Trigon’s plan to conquer and destroy Earth. Knowing she might be the key to stopping him—or unleashing him—she fled Azarath to warn Earth’s heroes. She sought help from the Justice League, but they sensed the darkness in her and refused. Undeterred, Raven turned to Earth’s young heroes. She helped form the Teen Titans, forging deep bonds with them, even as she kept her inner turmoil hidden.
Together, the Titans fought Trigon and defeated him—but his influence never fully vanished. Raven constantly battles his presence in her soul, resisting the temptation of power and the pull of evil. She walks a constant tightrope between her demonic origin and her human heart.
Raven’s story is one of restraint, inner conflict, and strength. Despite the darkness she was born from, she chooses to fight for light—every single day.
