Maika is a teenage arcanic (a hybrid race between humans and the ancients) and the daughter of the feared Morika Halfwolf (her was betrayed and murdered). Before the events leading up to the war, she was described as being a happy child with an infectious smile and who loved to dance. Now Maika seems largely devoid of emotions other than perhaps anger and disgust which resulted from years of being degraded and enslaved. In turn Maika doesn’t have qualms with manipulation, torture, or murder if it means self preservation, and in this world it always comes down to that. Despite the grief she suffers, Maika is still capable of love as seen in her relationships with Tuya, Kippa, and her goddess-father, Seizi Imura. She fears that she may unknowingly devour loved ones––as well as innocent people––and is willing to sacrifice her life to keep innocents safe from her inhuman hunger.

Lyssa, also spelled Lytta, was the Greek goddess of rage and crazed fury. She also controlled rabies in animals. When the Romans adopted Greek mythology, they gave her several names: Ira, Furor, and Rabies. Occasionally, they portrayed her as multiple beings called the Irae or Furores. She was often associated with the Maniae, the spirits of insanity. Lyssa has the power to cause other beings to go mad with rage. The role of Lyssa as the goddess of mad rage and frenzy was feared as uncontrollable, frightening emotions, verging on madness and insanity. However, she also has self control with this power, only using it when she has no other choice. She also sends rabies upon dogs, as in the story of Aktaion. She is often an agent of the gods’ punishment, maddening those who have displeased the gods.

Hecate was the chief goddess presiding over magic and spells. She witnessed the abduction of Demeter's daughter Persephone to the underworld and, torch in hand, assisted in the search for her. Thus, pillars called Hecataea stood at crossroads and doorways, perhaps to keep away evil spirits. Hecate, the Greek goddess of magic, witchcraft, and crossroads, is not inherently evil. In ancient Greek mythology, she was often associated with the night, ghosts, and necromancy, but she was also a protector of women, children, and the home. Whenever you are in need of protection, call on Hecate, dark goddess and protector of Witches. This Greco-Roman goddess rules Heaven, Earth, and the underworld. Hecate can move through each of the three worlds easily, seeing all and knowing all. You can use this spell any time you feel threatened or unsafe. Hecate, I call to thee. Watch over me as you can see all the negativity swarming around me. May your grace protect me.
