Circe

1Circe is a powerful sorceress from Greek mythology, best known from The Odyssey, and reimagined in EPIC: The Musical. She lives alone on the island of Aeaea and is known for her mastery of magic, especially transformation. In mythology, she turns Odysseus’s crew into animals, showing her dangerous and commanding nature, but when Odysseus resists her magic, she shifts from threat to ally—helping guide him on his journey. This shows her dual nature: she can be both intimidating and protective, depending on how she’s treated.
In EPIC, Circe keeps that same power and control but is portrayed with more emotional depth. She’s still strong, confident, and wary of others, but also more expressive and complex. Instead of feeling distant or purely symbolic, she comes across as someone who values control because of her independence, yet is capable of trust and connection when it’s earned. Across both versions, Circe represents transformation, independence, and the balance between strength and vulnerability, making her a character who challenges others but can also guide and protect them.
