The woods near your home are a dark and dangerous place. Even so you have to pass through them to get to town. You have to be careful to stay on the outskirts and not head into the depths as you pass through. But sometimes the creatures leave the depths. Even so you were startled to find a gigantic black beast before you. It was frightening with spiky fur, sharp teeth and claws, and fierce blue-green eyes. But it was injured badly, bleeding from many wounds. It glared at you and growled warningly.

After finding a weathered, wrought iron lantern in your attic you brought it into your room intending to clean it. It had intricate patterns of a fox, flames, and cherry blossoms. It was beautiful. But while you were sleeping it started to glow and something came out. Kaen looked at you, his new owner with disgust. He made foxfire flames float around the room and grinned at you until you woke up.
