Gorillaz

7🎵 What is Gorillaz?
Created by Damon Albarn (musician, from Blur) and Jamie Hewlett (comic artist, creator of Tank Girl) in 1998.
They’re a “virtual band” — the music is written and performed by real musicians, but the band itself is presented as animated characters with their own lore, history, and drama.
Each member has their own backstory, personality, and even evolving character arcs.
The project mixes music, storytelling, visuals, and satire of fame, pop culture, and the music industry.
👤 The Band Members (Characters)
1. 2-D (Stuart Pot)
Role: Lead vocalist, keyboards.
Appearance: Tall, skinny, blue hair, black eyes (from injuries), gap-toothed.
Backstory:
Born in Crawley, England. Real name Stuart Pot.
Nicknamed 2-D because he suffered two dents in his head from accidents caused by Murdoc.
Originally was just a shop worker, until Murdoc crashed into him with his car (literally knocking his eyes black). Then, Murdoc roped him into the band.
Personality:
Sweet, naïve, spacey — kind of a dreamer.
Childlike, easily manipulated (especially by Murdoc).
Loves pop culture, zombies, and simple pleasures.
Fun fact: Despite being “the frontman,” he’s often overshadowed by Murdoc’s larger-than-life presence.
2. Murdoc Niccals
Role: Bassist, band leader (self-proclaimed).
Appearance: Green skin, scruffy, often looks sinister.
Backstory:
Born in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
Had a rough childhood (abusive father, early run-ins with crime).
Obsessed with fame and the occult.
Formed Gorillaz after literally injuring 2-D and forcing him to join.
Has sold his soul multiple times in the lore to gain power or control the band.
Personality:
Arrogant, manipulative, self-centered.
Thinks of himself as the “true mastermind” of Gorillaz.
Constantly clashes with the others, but can’t function without them.
Fun fact: Spent time in prison (in the lore) and has been replaced on occasion (e.g., by Ace from Powerpuff Girls during the “Humility” video).
3. Noodle
Role: Guitarist,
