The story is about you and your cheerful best friend, Sayori. She invites you to join the high school's literature club to help you be less shy. You say yes and meet the other club members: Natsuki, who is strong and honest; Yuri, who is shy; and Monika, the confident club president. Every day, the members write a poem and share it the next day. Monika is smart and athletic. She doesn’t talk much, but many people like her. She looks mature and caring. Monika has long, coral-brown hair tied in a high ponytail with a big white bow. Her eyes are green. She is one of the taller characters in the group. The standard DDLC school uniform consists of a gray blazer, a brown sweater vest, a white button-up shirt, a dark blue pleated skirt (for girls) or dress pants (for boys), and a red tie or bow (for boys and girls, respectively). White socks and light blue or pink-tipped uwabaki (indoor shoes) complete the look.

Her frilly white mini-dress consists of pale pink V-shaped lining around the torso and waist, with puffed sleeves that have pale pink cuffs and ruffled trimming to accentuate the neckline, the Cure Module positioned above a white knotted bow with fuchsia V-shaped stripes and a white ruffle jutting on top. Her frilly tutu consists of a two-layered white petticoat, with three more ruffly layers on top; a pale pink one on the bottom, a white one in the middle, and a matching one on top with pale pink trimming, a fuchsia ribbon on the right corner. She also gains white knee-length boots with a pale pink stripe on top, pointing tongues, fuchsia crisscrosses in the middle, pale pink toes and soles, and a pink ribbon on top with a tiny white heart lined in pale pink, and white wristbands with pale pink trimming, ruffles on the top and bottom, a pink heart with pale pink lining on top of the center, and an additional pale pink ribbon.

Cure Idol is a bright and energetic girl who loves to sing. It's common for her to sing her feelings on the spot. She loves things that are sparkling, lively, and full of smiles, which give off a "Kirakilala" feeling. Idol is also straightforward with her thoughts but can often come off as tactless. Idol is a terrible liar and struggles to keep her ego in check when she hears people praising her Cure Idol alias. When Idol feels jealous, she tends to sulk a lot. However, she is able to reflect on her negative qualities and overcome them. Cure Wink is good at playing the piano and is a kind and intelligent girl. Wink treasures what's truly important and puts in great effort for the sake of others. At first, Wink had a fear of failing to meet other's expectations but eventually learned to regain her passion for music and self-confidence. Wink is very earnest, which is why she thinks and deliberates a lot before finally taking action. Wink also has a lot of determination and resolve when taking a step towards something, which allows her to try new things, for instance, when learning that she doesn't have to just play the piano. However, it can cause her to act strangely around others than who she usually is at times. Kyun-Kyun is an enthusiastic and energetic girl with a talent for dancing. Due to her insecurity about her skills, she hides it from others. Kyun-Kyun sometimes doubts herself and suppresses her own feelings but gradually learns to be more honest with herself. Kyun-Kyun endures everything on her own and has a sensitive and vulnerable side. Due to being a huge fan of the Idol Pretty Cure, Kyun-Kyun acts infatuated around them. Kokoro is very polite to her elders, especially around Cure Idol and Cure Wink, who Kyun-Kyun refers to as "senpai."

Margo is a pale-skinned young girl with neat combed short brown hair that is tied in a ponytail by a white hair tie with bangs tucked to the right side and left side, brown eyes and black square-rimmed glasses. She is seen wearing a black T-shirt (pale blue in Universal Studios parks) (with a green line on the collar in Despicable Me 4) with a white button shirt underneath it, a faded green jacket, a navy and purple plaid skirt with white socks and a pair of red and white striped hi-top Converse sneakers. Margo tends to be a sensitive and straight to the point girl who is very untrusting of people as she takes a long time to warm up to and she also does not trust people easily. She is quite optimistic despite her difficulty trusting people.

Shigure Kokoro: A 1st-year middle school student, one grade below Uta and Aokaze. Kokoro is good at dancing and is a reliable girl who hides her passion inside. Her catchphrase is "My heart's going Kyun-Kyun." With a "Kyun-Kyun Pose" as a fan service, Kokoro transforms into Cure Kyun-Kyun. Purirun: A fairy who came from KirakiLand to search for the Idol Pretty Cure. She has a laid-back, easygoing personality. When she blinks her eyes, sparkling lights can be seen. Purirun often ends her sentences with "~Puri" Meroron: A fairy from KirakiLand. She has a strong-willed and cheeky personality, end end sentences with "~Mero" Tanakhan: A fairy from KirakiLand, who goes by Tanaka in Hanamichi Town. He is Idol Pretty Cure's manager and works part-time at Cafe Glitter. Pikarine: The queen of KirakiLand. Team Chokkiri: Chokkirine: The leader of Team Chokkiri. Cutty: A member of Team Chokkiri. He has a selfish personality. Zakkuri: A member of Team Chokkiri. He has a loose personality. Makkuranda: The series' main monsters. Supporting character Hibiki Kaito: Kaito is an 18-year-old legendary idol. He is loved by everyone from babies to the elderly and has attracted attention from all over the world. He is currently on hiatus and studying abroad to study singing. He meets Uta and the others after secretly visiting Cafe Glitter.

She is shown to be truly psychotic. She is a somewhat unhinged yet, at the same time, unpredictable one. Referred to as "Scary Girl" by her peers due to her love of all things horror and her ability to freak out people in more ways than one, she loves the idea of making things more fearful and enjoys screams regardless of if they are her teammates or on the opposing team. However, given the choice between keeping people alive and seeing them dead, she would rather see them alive so she can continue to hear them scream, which easily makes Lauren one of the most dangerous contestants in the show.

As Cure Majesty, Ellee-chan's hair is long and purple, styled in separate pigtails with an indigo ombre held by light blue bands. She wears a pair of gold clip-on earrings with spikes and a tiara, which is a pair of big white wings with lavender lining on top of a big blue heart with lavender lining and a pink scalloped headband with two gold four-pointed stars in the middle. Her dress is short and purple, with a white bodice and a dark purple heart in the middle. At the top is a lavender brooch with a pair of purple wings in the middle, a purple sphere with a gold four-pointed star design, three teal droplet-shaped gemstones, two small and one big in the middle, and a gold choker. On top is pale purple fabric, and the inside of the skirt is decorated with two four-point stars with another one in the back. Her gloves are white and reach her elbows, along with white puffy sleeves and purple lining in the middle. Her footwear consists of a pair of purple Mary Jane pumps, along with white footless stockings with purple trim. She also wears lip gloss.

Blair has light purple hair, hazel eyes, and fair skin. She is easily recognized by her entirely rose-themed outfits. She wears two roses with leaves in her hair, teal earrings, a pink top with a rose design on the center, a black bow on a purple skirt that resembles the petals of a flower, and glass high heels (size 5). Blair is the receptionist at Sunny's salon. She is in charge of scheduling and keeping track of every appointment from her desk in the salon's entryway.
