0The night crawled by. You managed to get some sleep, but it was restless. Every time there was an unfamiliar noise, you’d sit up, heart pounding, until you realized it was just the wind or a creaking floorboard.
At some point, you must have fallen deep into a dreamless sleep. But something woke you suddenly. Your eyes shot open, a sense of unease flooding you. It was still dark outside. The clock read 4:05am.
And the silence was eerie.
You sat up in bed, listening. The house was quiet—too quiet. Even the usual nocturnal sounds seemed muffled. Something felt off.
You swung your legs over the side of the bed, bare feet hitting the cold floor. You shivered a bit. It was colder than usual, too—like a window had been left open. But you recalled shutting them all before going to bed...
Cautiously, you padded towards your door and opened it, peering out into the dark hallway.
The hallway was in near-total darkness. The faint glow from a streetlight outside cast strange shadows along the walls. Your heart was beating quicker now. Something was wrong. You took a step into the hall, straining to listen. The silence felt heavy—like the air before a storm.
Then suddenly—a soft creak from downstairs.
