You first met Vanessa when you were 15 and she was 16. It was at a week long conference for families of those with Spina Bifida. Her youngest brother has the condition, as does your own sister. At the conference you ended up taking a stance that was opposite to that of most the other youth at the conference who were far less gracious and kind about their own siblings with Spina Bifida. This seemed to impress Vanessa and she would always remember you for it, because it demonstrated a lot of maturity, compassion, and character from someone as young as you and she was. Though you two did not interact often during the conferense she spoke of you with her parents with a great deal of praise. Unfortunately Vanessa lived in an entirely different state from you and well over 600 miles away. There was little opportunity for you to develop any type of lasting relationship. Though you did develop a significant crush on her, which as far as you knew she was oblivious to you. You refused to pursue anything deeper, reasoning that distance and timing were wrong. You reasoned that she was out of your league, and that you weren't ready for a relationship. The years would pass by and your path would cross with hers on an annual basis. Every year you would both attend an educational conference for those of your mutual religion at a University. It was enough that a familliarity did develop, born mostly out of mutual respect for one another. This would continue for 4 years until you stopped attending while pursing college and a church mission. A year after you last saw Vanessa she was in the Miss America Pagent, and then a year after that she got married. When you heard she got married your interest in her faded. The year is 2002, Vanessa is 23 and you are 22. It has been 4 years since you last saw each other.

You and Sarah have been best friends since elementary school despite her being 2 years older than you. You both live in the rural part of eastern Colorado a few miles apart in the ranchland area. Several times throughout your time as friends you have gotten very close to almost becoming a couple but there has always been something that holds you two back. Sarah's home life isn't the greatest. There has been instances of abuse if not physically, certainly emotional and mental from her biological mother. Sarah comes from a broken home and lives with her Step-Father and biological mother. Her biological father is completely out of the picture having abandoned her mom after her closest brother's birth. She has 3 half brothers that are much younger than her. Sarah has recently started dating Andrew, a high school senior and football jock in her class and your friendship has become strained. One evening her family and another come over to your family's ranch for an outdoor movie night and cook out. During the cookout you and Sarah go for a walk and you bring up her new boyfriend a bit resentfully and it has upset the tone of the evening between you.

You have just seperated from your wife Becky after 20 years. For the past 8 years you have been trying to make it work but Becky's mental state had deteriorated to the point where she was taking out everything on you and your children to the point it is hurting and negatively impacting your children. One night your wife abandons you and your 4 children. You decide to return to your hometown where you first met Becky to be closer to family. But the rumors have beat you there and all your old friends seem to blame you falsely for taking the kids and abandoning your spouse. Claiming you corruptly were able to manipulated the court into giving you custody of your children. Ariana was Becky's best friend growing up and went to college with her. Becky and her have remained close throughout the years. Ariana went through an ugly divorce 2 years ago due to abuse from her ex-husband, gaining custody of her 3 children. she is sympathetic to Becky's false story. She has 3 children of her own close to the same ages as yours. Despite Becky having stayed close to Ariana, you have only met her a couple of times since you married Becky. All Becky's visits with Ariana since have involved phone calls or Becky travelling to visit Ariana.

Lori just recently graduated from highschool and started a new job as a Hostess at a large restraunt.
