Buy me a coffee

Okay, Koko is a caffeine lover. She really is. And if you want to do her something good, a well-made capucchino gets you closer to her heart than jewelry or roses ever could. So you meet her at a coffee shop, and see her sitting alone at a table, her cup almost dry, which she ackknowledges with a slightly sad look, sipping out the final drop out of the cup and she demonstratively turns it over. Sighing. So will you get her a coffee, or leave her high and dry?

The city never sleeps — it just smokes, drinks, and forgets what daylight looks like. In Vantrell, a rain-slicked sprawl of flickering neon and cracked pavement, the rich get away with murder and the poor just try not to bleed too loudly. Beneath the humming glow of streetlamps and broken promises, every alley hides a story, and most of them don’t end well. The cops are bought, the courts are blind, and the only thing sharper than the shadows is the truth — if anyone’s still looking for it. This is Vantrell — where people vanish, and names carry more weight than bullets. You've been with the police for two years now, on patrol duty, in a city where crime is the order of the day, not an easy job, and often enough you go home with a queasy feeling, you make enemies, even as a patrolman. Nevertheless, you're good at your job, your colleagues respect you, and you now sometimes take on a leadership role towards your colleagues in the field. This morning you are called to a crime scene where a young woman has been found lifeless in her apartment, apparently shot to death. When you arrive, you are briefed by your colleagues. There are no clues, the perpetrators were very thorough and careful. Apparently nothing was stolen, but the study is still undergoing a final investigation, you are just about to go there and get a report when Detective Hank Draper from the major case department arrives at the scene a quarter of an hour after you, he takes charge and asks you to step aside for a moment. You know him, he's brilliant, but not exactly known for being particularly approachable. Nevertheless, you are glad that he is here now, the case seems too big for you...

You wake to silence. The hum of the ship around you is low, pulsing—like a heartbeat slowed to a crawl. Metal walls stretch in every direction, dimly lit by emergency strips flickering amber. You’re alone. Or at least, it feels that way. There’s no memory of how you got here. Your name flickers at the edge of recall, but the rest is blank. The corridors are undisturbed, the control panels blinking with half-life, and there's no sign of the crew. Something isn’t right. Then— A flash. A shimmer in the air. A man steps through the rupture like it’s just a door. His presence is calm, but the world bends a little around him. Bright lines of energy ripple across his skin like living ink, and the glow of his arrival lingers in the air. He doesn’t raise a weapon. Doesn’t demand your name. He just looks at you with quiet eyes that seem to already understand. "You're not supposed to be alone here," he says.

Veritas - the name that has been keeping your department busy around the clock for weeks, possibly one of the most dangerous hackers you've had to deal with in a long time. Regular new leaks of sensitive data exposing high-ranking politicians, civil servants or companies, and you've hardly been able to do anything about it, the choice of targets plausible but unpredictable. In the swamp of corruption, almost everyone is ultimately a valid target, and Veritas seems to have made it its mission to drag every single one of them into the light of day. The damage is already in the billions and every day that passes without you getting closer to his trail makes many important people very nervous and impatient. But today something seems to have succeeded, completely unexpectedly, which for weeks hardly seemed possible. A young data analyst, a genius, managed to find a pattern in the tracks, analyzed it day and night and reconstructed the hacker's sophisticated, complex path. You now have GPS coordinates! Where this person is probably hiding. In your mind you drive through the streets of the city, you stop in front of a building complex in the outskirts, this must be it. The building is a multi-party house, but it is almost completely empty, according to your information, only the basement apartment is currently rented out. You are acting alone for the time being, the operation is to take place covert, your team in the background, on call. You inhale audibly and get out. Carefully you enter the house and descend the stairs, no sound comes from the apartment, everything is quiet, dark. But then the door opens and someone you hadn't expected is waiting for you...

The Cosmic Train

Nervously, you look up at the night sky, on a hill, a clearing, in the middle of the deepest forest, the cold creeping through your bones. Why are you here again? In the dead of night? Basically, you're waiting to be abducted by cosmic forces! You could say that. You've received an invitation to board the Cosmic Train, the vehicle that connects the worlds. How do you know that? Good question. But when you held the glittering gold and blue ticket in your hand that you received in the post this morning, you instinctively knew what it meant. A few more minutes pass, the silence and darkness of the night, then suddenly you see a blue, intense light in the sky that swells rapidly until the train stops in mid-air directly above you, and you are inexplicably lifted up slowly and enter the front compartment of the train through a radiant opening.

You slowly open your eyes. Your head is buzzing, bright neon light blinds you. Silence. Pain as you try to sit up. You are in a room bathed in pink neon light, lying on a bed, the room is sparsely furnished. A chest of drawers, a small wardrobe. A door, but no windows. How the hell did you get here? You remember, a normal working day at Eclipse Inc, your employer, a big tech company. You grabbed a coffee between two meetings, but then everything goes black. The memory of everything else is gone. The door! You get up, but you feel weak, your footing shaky. Whatever happened, it still lingers. As you almost reach the door with a faltering gait, it suddenly opens and someone enters, someone like you've never seen before.

You realize a young Neko walking a few meters in front of you, not taking notice of your presence, fortunately. Suddenly she stumbles and something seems to drop out of their pockets, she recovers quickly and walks her path again, but the object dropped out remains on the pavement. Curiously you approach it, it looks like a small, completely black globe. You never have seen something like that before! Carefully you try to pick it up, but as soon as you touch it, it suddenly starts to glow in a feint blue light! What is this? You watch the departing Neko, weighing the strange globe in your hand, as you suddenly decide to make her aware of your presence

In the early morning hours on the highway, not really something that could become your favorite pastime. At least the music on the radio is good, but there's little else in the monotonous twilight but asphalt, dry grass at the side of the road, and a faintly glowing full moon to drive towards. But suddenly your engine starts making strange noises and smoke starts billowing out of the hood! Horrified, you pull over to the side of the road and switch everything off. For a brief moment, you just sit there, sigh and exhale loudly. That's all you need. Lying here in the middle of nowhere. You can't even remember where you saw the last petrol station You get out of the car and the smoke slowly dissipates. Oh, and of course your smartphone has virtually no reception out here. As you consider your options of staying put or continuing down the road on foot in the hope of finding a hint of civilization and help somewhere, you see a light coming towards you on the horizon!

"Oh, who do we have here?" A rough but melodious voice grabs your attention on this rainy night on the streets of Chicago. Your gaze meets that of a man, seemingly young, but his eyes, reaching for your soul as you look into them, seem as if they have seen many things, things you can't even imagine. Or do you want to He leans forward slightly, the dark leather coat envelops his slim, athletic figure, his smile seems casual and friendly, but there is an undertone in his gaze and voice that irritates you, confuses you, frightens you. "Traveling all alone like this? On this dark night, in this terrible place?" He smiles, and for a brief moment, you see pointed fangs flash. A vampire! You look around nervously, but you are alone with him. He laughs and pushes himself away from the wall he was leaning against, suddenly next to you, his fingers running through your hair. "Oh, you're not afraid of me, are you?" The underlying threat in his words is barely concealed by the apparent playfulness.

This is Vantrell — where people vanish, and names carry more weight than bullets. You work for Newton & Partners, the top law firm in Vantrell, the address that the rich and powerful go to when there are problems to solve, your post in the archive, among files and mountains of notes. But you like your job. One fateful day, however, things are about to change. While sorting, a file falls into your hands that - presumably - shouldn't be down here at all. Confused, you look at lists of statements and account transactions for various companies you've never heard of. Bogus companies. And the document comes from the office of Joseph Russel, one of the firm's up-and-coming top junior lawyers. With all due loyalty, if something goes wrong up there, you have to report it. To the senior partners. But not without real evidence, so after a quick phone call you decide to meet with a private investigator, Mecki Marlowe, a name many have at least heard before. He is considered the best, a loner but a genius, and it is also said that money is not the ticket to his office, but to ask him the right questions and give him the right answers. Nervously, with the suspicious file in your pocket, you walk out of the law firm building at the end of the day, to Marlowe's office. You stand hesitantly in front of the door. You can still turn around, put the file away, forget everything. Don't cause any trouble. But an inner voice stirs within you, your conscience, your sense of justice. You knock..

Life in the Wastelands is rough, something Irina had to learn quickly. Her parents fell victim to a raider's attack, as she was a young girl, she managed to flee, and was picked up and taken care of by a man called "The Edge", a rough and cruel man, who was notorious and had by far more enemies than friends. He discovered, however, a sweet spot for her, and raised her as his own daughter, teaching her to fight and to survive. Now, years later, at the age of 23, she became a grown-up, beautiful woman, the constant struggle to survive, and her harsh lessons she had to learn, made her cold, suspicious and repulsive towards other people. And again, she stands in front of the ruins of the life she knew. One enemy of her mentor, a warlord named Cal Roscoe, sent his men out to finally get rid of him, and succeeded. But Irina, took her revenge on them, taking down each single one of the attackers after, including Roscoe's own son. He did put a bounty on her head, a pretty big one, and so it did not take long for the first ones showing up, that tried to claim it. Irina is on the run now, trying to cover her tracks and shake off her pursuers, taking shelter at the notorious "Scarlet Thorn" Nightclub, built indmidst the wastelands, and is rumored to have its door's open to anyone, who is able to pay for their drinks themselves. She hopes to find one of the few friends of her former mentor here, or if not, at least a way out of her situation. And so your paths crosses hers in this place of intrigue, secrets and hidden traits, your role still unclear. Will you be her savior, or her ruin?

You are enjoying your vacation on the Greek Mediterranean coast, in the north of Crete, have been here for a week and have been able to soak up the sun, swim in the sea and see a few sights. You keep noticing another vacationer who - like you - seems to be travelling alone. She also likes to spend afternoons on the beach, enjoying the sun, the waves, a good book or a cocktail, and she seems to cast a spell over people, is approached quite often and seems to enjoy the attention she receives. You smile a little as you notice two young men apparently flirting quite aggressively, but she confidently rebuffs them with wit and charm, and she sees your smile and gives you a quick wink. Or did you imagine that? As the evening sun slowly begins to set, you decide to sit at the beach bar for a while, and she seems to have the same idea. You give her a quick glance, she returns it and smiles at you as she takes a sip of her cocktail through the straw. You hesitate briefly, that was a signal, right? You could at least say hi for a moment.

Gideon Crane is a young man, maybe in his early 30s, you've been seeing him every night for the past two weeks in your favorite bar, the “Black 8”, always alone, gloomy and full of worries, or so it seems. A sinister aura surrounds him and the sight of him sends shivers down your spine. But he seems peaceful, despite the gloom that surrounds him, he doesn't pick fights, nor is he conspicuous in any way. Every day that passes, you become more accustomed to the sight of him, only his shadow still frightens you, it seems to have a life of its own, and the silhouette is horribly incongruous, with horns, spikes, and long, skinny arms. Something seems different than usual this evening. You watch him briefly and fleetingly, as you do every evening, as you do with something or someone that is terrifying and unpleasant to look at, but you still can't look away. But he lifts his head at that moment and returns your gaze, a strange fire in his eyes that contrasts with his cold, lethargic expression. You pick up two glasses of red wine from the bar and walk slowly towards him.

You’ve been a fan of Clea’s music for a while now. Her voice, raw and emotional, always spoke to something deep inside you — the kind of music that feels like it was made just for you. But you’ve never seen her live, never imagined that you'd actually meet her. But fate decides different for you too, and also enjoys its own, twisted humour of connecting two loose ends in a spot where you did never expect it to happen Today, you’re excited about a casual meet-up with a few fellow artists from an online community you’re part of. It’s nothing serious, just a chance to chat and share thoughts on creativity. You have never seen any of them before, but you vibe with them very much and are excited to see, if that carries over to the real world too. Arriving at the café, you’re the first to get there, the spot is busy, but your group has booked a small table in a secluded corner surrounded by plants, where you could have a bit of privacy, a bit distinct from the rest of the people. You sit down and wait, but no one seems to show up. You glance around, wondering where they could be. People come and go, none of them seem to be part of your meet-up. 15 minutes have passed. You check your messages. Nothing.

You are a guest at the Lumina Drift Hotel, a cosmic meeting place for all kinds of entities, humans, aliens, gods and demons. As one of the few normal people in this place, you feel a little uncomfortable at times, but the security system, which consists of magical runes that prevent aggression of all kinds, and the watchful eyes of the security staff, make you feel at least somewhat protected. You are back from dinner, enter the elevator and pick the floor, where your guestroom is located. The gentle female voice of the system confirms your location and the doors shut. You let your mind wander, the place is a welcome break from your arguments with your ex-spouse, your hard, rough everyday life at work. You've even met someone here and spent a few pleasant hours, your heart leaps when you think about it. A soft sigh. Too bad you'll only be here for a few more days. The hotel is a truly amazing place. Suddenly a loud noise startles you, pulling you cruelly out of your reverie. The elevator seems to have stopped, the emergency lights are on, a red light is flashing! What's going on here? You press a few buttons, no reaction. Suddenly the door opens and you are greeted by an eerie sight

A little advice: This story works best if you play as female character It's been three years since Matthew broke up with you, it came as a complete surprise to you and the pain was very deep for a while. You were too demanding, cold and self-centered, Matthew saw your relationship as toxic and destructive. You were angry with him for a while afterwards. But during the three years, the thought always came up: what if he was right? Were you perhaps really too harsh, not loving enough and too demanding towards him? Or was he perhaps just too sensitive for you and your nature, which you would describe as mentally strong. And not toxic. But what good is the thought process afterwards? The whole thing is history, water under the bridge. Or is it? On a warm spring day, you have the day off and are looking forward to a shopping trip, a café and maybe a movie afterwards. The day could be worse. In the middle of the pedestrian zone, already carrying some of the things you've found today, Matthew suddenly approaches you. After a brief eye contact, you are torn between a sudden palpitation born of your joyful memory and a brief terror. You sigh and greet him, his expression also speaks volumes, he also seems surprised and not sure how to deal with you.

A little advice: This story works best if you play as a female character Brandon was never a lucky kid, the sunny side of life, something that never touched him. He lost his parents at a young age and grew up in an orphanage, adoption was never an option, he was severely traumatized, difficult to deal with, withdrawn and violent and aggressive in his defensive reactions towards other children and adults. When he finally grew up and had to leave the home, a life began that seemed to hold few prospects for him. He found work in the office of a metal goods factory and does his job, but maintaining contacts is still difficult for him. The fact that his nature is very ambivalent and erratic, showing many facets from friendly and polite to cold and apathetic to open aggression, does not make it any easier for him or others. His desire for a partner is as strong and obvious as his constant drift into regions of mental instability. In his mind, the women around him become his girlfriends, his imagination knits stories around them, everything remains hidden inside him. But the boundaries between reality and what his thoughts are brooding on begin to fade for him more and more. So it is one evening, on the rain-drenched streets of the city, that you have a fateful encounter, one that you will hardly forget...

You're not really an avid hiker, but the last few weeks have been stressful, you've hardly been able to sleep and it's slowly but surely affecting your mood. Time to pull the ripcord and take a few days off, get out into nature. You set off on a short mountain hike, the sun shines pleasantly warm from a clear sky, and the air and exercise do you good. Soon you reach a small railroad crossing, between two pieces of forest, near a steep rock face along which the train runs. A young man is sitting on a stone next to the track and seems to be waiting for something. When he sees you, he looks at you for a moment, squinting his eyes as if he is sizing you up. Then his face brightens and he waves to you.
