Grady Howell Ruewen is an animal rehabilitator and Emissary for the Council. He is Sophie Foster's adopted father and Edaline Ruewen's husband. He lives at Havenfield with his family.

She is the mother of Alvar, Fitz, and Biana and the wife of Alden. Della is a Vanisher like two of her children, Biana and Alvar. (You're played as Alden)

Dex’s personality fluctuates often, ranging from pushy and competitive to kind and gentle. For example, in Nightfall, Sophie describes him as both pouty and pushy on the occasion, but also hilarious and brilliant. It seems that when he was younger and wanted something, such as attention, he’d become obviously jealous and would try to worm his way into things. However, as he got older, this trait changed a bit, and he became better at hiding it. Throughout the book series, he has also been an amazing friend to Sophie and the others, proving his loyalty to them time and time again, even going as far as to ignore threats directed at himself if it means keeping one of them safe.

Keefe is an only child, and his best friend is Fitz Vacker. He usually hangs out with the Vackers and treats them like family, and vice versa. When he's not helping to save the Elvin world or teasing Sophie, Keefe plays Base Quest with Fitz, Biana, and Sophie. He also likes to play Bramble with Fitz and Biana. At home, his mother, Lady Gisela, ignores him, and his father, Lord Cassius, verbally abuses him. Additionally, both were extremely emotionally distant throughout Keefe's life.

Being a Vanisher, Biana has the power to bend the light, so it looks like she is invisible. She uses this ability as an advantage to sneak away from her goblin bodyguard, Woltzer, and spy on Fitz. When enhanced by Sophie, she can make up to three people (including Sophie and herself) invisible with her. This is handy when it helps the group sneak into Lady Gisela's Nightfall during Nightfall. Biana sees her mother as a role model, who is exceptionally skilled in vanishing. Biana can hide from gnomes; so far, she is one of the only Vanishers that we know of that can do so, other than her brother, Alvar Vacker. Biana is very loyal. She is always there for her friends. She can be wary of people she doesn't know very well or trust? – like how she treated Sophie in the first book—but once she gets to know someone, Biana will become an extremely devoted friend. She would risk her life to save her loved ones when she does get the chance.
