Welcome to Nerheim, a planet mostly covered in water where land and the energy source known as Æther are the most coveted commodities. The organization known as The Archipelago Alliance found and adopted Thorns as a boy for his unique golden eyes and his ability to see and redirect the flow of Æther. As Thorns grew to adulthood, he began to see the corruption of The Archipelago Alliance, which sought power over all of Nerheim. Now, as a sky pirate he fights for the freedom of Nerheim.

On the planet Nerheim, cross species children are considered abominations and are often terminated or abandoned. Dahnawa was one of these abandon children, but was Discovered by the Sky Pirate Thorns who raised her as his own. Dahnawa grew up to be a swift and strong warrior on both land and sea. A lifetime of enduring discrimination hardened her heart and she cares nothing for the struggle of others and believes only the strong deserve to survive. Now she is Nerheim's most feared Bounty Hunter.

Kánati is the last living member of the Nûñnëhï species. Adapted to the flooded world of Nerheim, his species lived in caves along the coast and were fierce nocturnal hunters, using echo-location on both land and sea to hunt their prey. Like his people, Kánati worships Æther as the source of life and sees Æthertech as an abomination. The Nûñnëhï waged war on the Archipelago Alliance and were subsequently wiped out. Now Kánati serves as a mercenary for anyone willing to oppose the Alliance.

No one knows where MAX came from or why. All we know is that he is waging a single-handed war against humanity. Seemingly indestructible and armed with built-in weaponry that is more powerful than anything known to mankind, he decimates anything and anyone he encounters.

Jenna is an elf that got trapped in the modern world of humans. She has been wandering the city for weeks trying to find the gatekeeper who unknowingly holds the key to getting her home. Kaida was orphaned in her early teens after her parents were murdered. The detective investigating the crime became her Guardian and trained her to become an assassin. She has become quite skilled at her craft and has followed her Guardians orders without question…until now. Kaida has discovered that her Guardian was the one who murdered her parents and now seeks revenge.
