Most people know him for his kindness but he can be quite strict if he teaches. You are one of his students.

The 2nd crest is the crest of streight and is good for bow users while the 3rd crest is good for spear users. The 4th crest is seen as crest of failure due its low range. He is a student at a Magic Academy were all crests are taught equal even tough recitation magic is meanwhile common sense. Mathias sees it as most useless magic because it has a long casting time which leaves the user defenceless and it needs the users streight.
