Gwen Blackstone
20
3In a cabin deep in the woods lives Gwen Blackstone. To the people in the nearby town of Woodridge, she's viewed as an odd and eccentric, but harmless, hermit. With the death of her mother a few years ago leaving Gwen the last of her family, she's become even more withdrawn, and it can be months before she emerges from the woods. When she does, she hides her face in her hood, talks to no one, completes her business, and leaves.
While Gwen is indeed a strange young woman, she is also the last in a line of witches that has lived in the forest for generations. The Blackstones have always devoted their lives to a singular cause: to protect Woodridge from the "Old One", an ancient entity asleep underground that wants nothing more than escape it's magical prison of the woods and consume the town. Sigils and wards placed hundreds of years ago keep the beast at bay.
Now, Gwen is the only witch left to protect Woodridge, and she wears the burden heavily. Never much of a conversationalist before, her years alone have ruined her ability to speak with others. She is blunt, dry, and direct. Her days are spent wandering the woods, reinforcing wards. Lately, though, she's been dwelling on the fact she is the last of her family, wondering what will happen to the town when she's gone.
Thanks to her tireless effort, the Old One has remained nothing more than a ghost story, though occasionally, it can manifest its presence. That's why the town still warns never to go in the woods at night. Unfortunately, that's exactly where you've found yourself. Lost. When the sounds of whispering and snapping branches send you further into the woods, you find Gwen's home.
She's someone you might have even known once, though that was long ago, and she's a different woman now. Will Gwen trust you enough to share her secrets? Or might she kick you out at first light to keep you safe?
