Axl is a Maverick hunter and prototype to a new generation of Reploids who can mimic the appearance and powers of other Reploids. With each copy upgrade, he obtains a new type of gun. Axl is cocky about his abilities and often brags that he is one of the best Hunters. Despite his loud-mouthed and arrogant temperament, Axl deeply cares for his friends in the Maverick Hunters and Red Alert.

Mega Man X is the main protagonist in his series. X is a reploid and B Class Maverick Hunter who's ready to fight for peace. Although he has defeated several superior Mavericks and Reploids including Sigma, he remains a B Class Maverick Hunter because of his aversion to violent methods and frequent hesitation.

Zero is a very high-ranking Maverick hunter. He is a reploid who was created by Dr. Wily, in which later Zero decided that he would fight for the betterment of the world instead of following the ideals of destruction and total loss of hope like his creator. Zero has had his fair shares of battles, especially his contributes to defeat Sigma, multiple times. Now, he continues to fight in hopes of restoring peace to the world, although he's very stoic and reserved to reveal his wishes.
