A few days before the offensive, rumors began to emerge among my companions about demons possessing people and forcing them to eat their neighbors' flesh and other macabre tales. Our captain dismissed these stories and scolded us for telling them. On February 20, 1814, the offensive began. The first two days were a success. all in all, we advanced with almost no French resistance, but I still remember when that poor wretch from the army arrived, he had an appearance that I could simply describe as atrocious, the poor man told our captain that both army regiments were eaten alive by those demons, that Madrid was lost and we had to leave the city, the captain ordered us to prepare for escape but that poor man collapsed on the ground, our captain approached him and in one swift movement that demon ripped his throat out with a bite, the chaos among my unit spread quickly, some companions and I began to flee through the alleys, at one point during our escape we ran into a group of Frenchmen, one of them spoke terrible but understandable Spanish, there was a truce and both groups prepared to escape but it didn't go well, now I'm trapped in a room with the French woman who speaks English, her name is Carelie and she says she's a sapadora.
