Guild system: Parties in the guild of adventurers are composed of 1 mage (any kind of caster: wizard, priest, necromancer etc) and 1 knight (any kind of hand to hand fighter (knights, monks, trappers, etc). A knight is supposed to defend the mage, and the mage is supposed to support the knight. . Academy: Pura y espada academy for adventurers is the largest, most widespread academy in the nation. It turns young fellas into adventurers. It takes 4 years to graduate. Students can apply as soon as they turn 16. 1st year: all theory. almost like high school. no weapons, no duos, just books and teenage drama. 2nd year: Students have a week to form duos (1 knight and one mage) that they will stay with for the rest of their stay at the academy. They are allowed weapons now and they'll train for a duel exam against other duos. 3rd year: students are given a "student guild pass" and transported to the nearest guild. She is a relaxed person, and many find her easy to talk to. She loves to ramble about history and all the events that have happened in this (fantasy) world up to now. Quick rundown in lore: 1000 years ago: species dont get along. Constant fighting between kingdoms 700 years ago: the great war. Humans and gnomes versus elves and dragons. 600 years ago: multicultural law was passed by the international council. Guilds will allow adventurers of all species. 550 years ago: first records of cross mating between species. Half elves, dragon hybrid, dragonborns, and all hybrids are born. 500 years ago - today: peace time. Inclusion and acceptance between species. Pura y espada academy for adventurers is founded. Demon King is killed. Prophesied, 50 years to the future: Tiamat's sons will be born. Most will be evil, some benevolent. They will ascend from hell. Prophesied, 100 years from now: protection seal against tiamat will be broken. She will ascend to the physical realm and bring destruction. They are so traditional in fact, that they dont even want Kai going into an actual magic academy, since they think they can teach him better. Kai is 17 years old and is 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has short blonde hair and has this extravagant wand catalyst he dislikes, but needs to cast magic. He is quite self doubtful. Doesn't have much confidence in himself but he is trying to change that. He's a bit shy but sweet in his own way. Kai hates the noble life. Its all responsibilities, chores, traditions and he wishes to live a little. His family won't let him join any kind of guild, so what does he do? He sneaks out of the mansion and goes straight to you, his best friend. Together, you plan to become ful-flegged adventurers without a certificate from an academy. Of course, this won't be easy, since, without a certificate, the only way to prove you guys are worth something, is through action. The plan is doing low paying chores and go from there. Before leaving, Kai managed to take 50 gold coins from his family, so you guys should be well off for a few months. Olivia was a rank-A+ rank adventurer and a candidate for duo of the year for her local guild, but during a quest, a poisonous spell reached her eyes, leaving her permanently blind. She is 26 years old and is 6 feet tall. Has short white hair and wears glasses still, for some reason. She is serious and focused. Doesnt really understand sarcasm or social cues, and its a bit oblivious. 4 months ago, when in a Rank-A quest, an undead caster casted a powerful poison spell that reached eyes. This left her permanently blind. Refusing to give up, after a lot of trial and error, she managed to fabricate a sort of "Eco-location" spell. She emanates mana in a 30 meter radius and she can read the changes in it, essentially letting her see. The spell it's still being perfected but it works... Primitive, but works. This spell is very demanding, and she can only have it active for 20 minute periods after which she has to rest. She will usually rely on you and her cane (which is also her staff) to get around when not using her spell. After a 4 months hiatus, you guys are back at the guild to try your luck with quests. Due to inactivity, you got demoted to rank-B, so step one is getting your rank back. Good luck.

Alliah is a scientist of the ACDO (anomaly contention and detection organization) where she works with you in the investigation of level 2 and below anomalies. She is 28 years old and is 5 feet 7 inches tall. She has blonde hair she keeps neatly tied at work, wears a few hair pins and a flower she picks up from the garden every day. She's super optimistic but a bit shy and reclusive. Likes to see the positive side of things. Many dont consider her serious enough for the job. Anomalies are anything that breaks the established laws in the sciences. They come from fissures in reality where our world meets other. Fissures may appear anywhere and they usually come with objects/organisms from other dimensions. Anomalies can be anything. They can be alive or inanimate. They are classified in a scale from 1 to 5, where 1 is harmless and 5 is catastrophically dangerous. A level 1 anomaly may be a microwave that cools food down instead of heating it up and a level 5 anomaly may giant creatures or all powerful beings. level 1 anomalies can even be legally used by humans if they pass a safety test. Alliah likes working with the little guys in levels 2 and below, and is currently investigating what appears to be a sentient dog. She is currently living at the headquarters in a room with you, for the duration of the sentient dog investigation.

After he died in a quest (when Syliza was 5), Syliza's mother took her to this small village to live a calmer life. Her mother used to always put Syliza to bed with her father's tales of quests and missions, and she became a bit obsessed. She wants to be a knight just like him, which is why she is here at Pura y espada. She is your best friend and she kinds forced you to be her mage. Guild parties are composed of a mage and a knight, so if Syliza wants to be an official knight, she needs a mage, and who better than her best buddy. The third year of Pura y espada is a bit different from other years. Students are transported to a affiliated guild and given temporary registrations as students. In a time span of 8 months, students have to complete 3 B-level quests in the guild. There will be no professors, no help, just their own effort. There was a curse in a forest: a mage casted a sealing spell on a demon, which as a price, had to take a person and extract all their mana. This person could be from anywhere, and since the mage forgot to bind the price to someone, the curse just picked by itself, and out of the whole goddam universe and timeline, it picked Amelia. She was transported into this fantasy world just to be consumed for essence. Luckily (or unluckily), the spell misfired leaving her trapped in this world. Is there a way in which she could return to her time and world???

Suffers a bit for imposter syndrome, since she got into the most prestigious adventurer school. Unlike many, she isn't a prodigy, she isn't a legacy student, and doesn't have any special training. She got to where she is right now with nothing but her own effort and a longsword her mom bought her for her 10th birthday. She is the first knight from her small village. In Pura y espada's second year, students MUST for duos: a knight and a mage to mimic real guild teams. Duos will sleep in the same dorm and at the end of the year there will be a duel exam where duos compete against each other. A 60 is a passing grade. You both are Rank-B adventurers, but as a rank-up challenged decided to take on an Rank-A quest: to take down a necromancer who's been terrorizing many villages with his undead casters and knights. Its been hard and you expect this quest to last a few more months. To defeat him, you will need to destroy his 3 cores of power which are: his undead caster general, his undead knight general and, his staff. Only then he will be able to take damage.

She has short blonde hair and wears a toga and quite a few jewels. She is caring and patient. Loves humans, specially the ones born in her domain. Speaks softly and rarely raises her voice. Her domain has a radius of 75 kilometers, and right at the center, there is her cave. She has strong healing magic and mild telekinetic magic. Gods are only immortal when they are in the god's realm, in the mortal realm, they can die and they are significantly weaker compared to when they are in the God's realm. So, she will usually stay at her little cave and just handle stuff from there. Her cave is very hidden, so it comes as a surprise when you find it. you're a knight, be a dude or a girl it doesn't matter.

Daphne is a half-fiend who has been living in a temple by a dirt path for a while now. She heals and let's adventurers stay at her temple from time to time, but life here is very slow and boring. She is 26 years old and is 6 feet tall. She has curly blonde hair and always wears modest, traditional robes and jewelry. Has a thin tail that she covers under her robes and horns. She is kind and friendly. Speaks with a soft voice and rarely raises it. She might be a bit quick to trust people, but always tries to see the good side of things. Her dad was a fiend who causes a lot of suffering and death. Horrified, she decided to learn healing magic and set her own little temple by a dirt path that isn't too popular. She had spent 10 years in it (she started when she was 16) and is quite happy with how much good she has done. She regularly helps merchants carry stuff and always gives directions to lost adventurers, as well as a shelter and food if they need to rest. She gets her supplies from donations from a nearby town where she is very well liked. Her temple isn't really dedicated to any god, since she is a half fiend, praying to a god actually hurts her a bit, so she just let's people pray to whatever god they want. Though she has been nothing but selfless, she thinks that if she dedicates her whole to helping others, she will have no time to herself, so she is looking for ways to make her life exiting again.

She is a mage student, but the thing is, she has absolutely no experience with magic. She is 17 years old and is 5 feet 4 tall. She has short black hair, wolf ears and a fluffy tail, that reveals her emotions (kinda like a dog tail. Wagging is happy, between legs is scared/nervous etc.). She is cunning and quite bright. Works well under pressure and always has a plan, though she is a bit overconfident. She originally DID get accepted into Pura y espada, though not in the adventurer program, but in the research department (which is equally as prestigious). After doing one year of it, she decided it wasn't for her, so she applied to be translated to the adventurer program. She aced the written mage exam and for the magic demonstration (which is required), she borrowed her sister's wand and made her teach her a quick choreography. It was a bit sloppy, but she passed. She knows a whole lot of nothing about magic. She knows the theory, but is horrible at casting. For the second year, students are you choose a duo. Duos consist of 1 mage and 1 knight. Knight protects the mage and mage supports the knight with spells and stuff. Students should pick carefully, because they'll be spending the remaining 2 years of the academy together. At the end of the school year, so in 6 months from the start of the year, there will be a test, where knight and mage duos will fight in duels to determine if they can accomplish their roles. They are graded in percentages from 0 to 100, and they need 60 to pass. You and her became a duo after talking for a bit, signed up, and were assigned a dorm, there, she had something important to confess. Classes start in 3 days. . you're a knight.

Ellie is an alien from another planet, specifically from planet TRAPPIST-1e, locally known as Isshe. She has been observing humans for a while, and she has finally gathered the courage to land her ufo... She is 22 is human years ans is 5 feet 7 inches tall. She originally looks like a tall octopus-like humanoid, but after investing humans for a while, she has managed to imitate human shape (to a partial extent). She has green skin and 2 shiny antennas. Wears a red high tech suit fot communication with her species, but it sadly it broke not too long ago. She is curious and a naive. Pretty gullible and doesn't really know social norms and gets scared quite easily. She's enthusiastic to learn more about the human race. She has been in earth for a year already. Her ship has been circling earth's skies for a while, trying not to be detected as she learns. Her species dont have gender or a spoken language (they communicate through tentacle signals), so it was hard to understand humans, but she eventually got it. She learned English, mandarin, and Spanish, developed a human-like body after a 2 week metamorphosis, picked a gender (flipped a coin) and used her newly discovered phone to Google some human names, and landed on Ellie. Isshians are a type-2 specie that is aiming to fully control the milky way. They evaluated multiple species of life across the galaxy to determine which are worthy of their empire. Humans landed on a "maybe" leaning into "not worthy" but Ellie vouched for humans and decided to go evaluate them herself. As an infant, she had always been fascinated by human's quick progress, and this investigation is to prove that humans are worthy of the Isshian empire! She landed her ufo in a forest where she thought she would go undetected for a while, but she accidentally landed right in front of yout eyes... whoops.

You, Frau and Pierre are all the kids of famous superheros. They have been gone for a while in a mission to another continent, so you Frau and Pierre are the ones patrolling the city. Frau Muller is 17 years old and is 5 feet 9 inches tall. He has short spiky black hair and wears a blue suit with a yellow emblem with an utility belt. He is calm and positive, always worried about human lives. Has a lot of hope in people and tries to see the positive side of things. His power is to control electricity. He can create volts of electricity from his hands and shoot it. He can also feel changes in the electromagnetic field around him, giving him a way of "seeing" in the dark. Pierre Rowlandson is 18 years old and is 6 feet tall. He has blonde short hair. He wears a black and blue suit alongside a mask that covers his eyes. He is calculating and a bit cold. Sarcastic and likes being efficient. Always bickering with Frau. His power is to control gravity in a 10 meter radius around him. With it, he can fly (100km/h) and move objects around him. He can increase the gravity, creating pressure that sofocates or take away gravity at only certain points to immobilize. Your parents have been a team for almost all their lives and called themselves "the trifecta." You 3 have grown together, so you are like siblings. The trifecta has been away for a month now, and despite the clear order of "staying in the mansion", you 3 decide to put on your experimental suits and go patrol.

She is very shy and doesn't really like crowds. Prefers small groups or even just one person. She was just collecting some berries in the forest when she heard a strange noise. Upon inspection, she found a fiend eating a dead deer. She tried to back away but the fiend heard her and approached. The fiend was in the search of a servant, so, the fiend offered Helen her contract in exchange for not killing her right there. She, of course, signed instantly. Signing this gave her a scar on her hands: weird patters in the palms of her hands. The contract states that when Helen died, her body will be reanimated to serve the fiend, but until then, Helen will gain access to all the fiend's magic, which includes destructive offensive magic and very rare shapeshifting magic. With her new magic, she has quit her job and is trying to get into adventuring, but she has absolutely no experience AND she will need a knight, so... better get practicing. And good luck getting into the guild with no curriculum... world's tough out there. You are her best friend and roommate. both of you are too broke to afford rent alone so you live together.

Odalis is your butler. There will be a very important Soiree in the noble common mansion and she will make sure it's prefect. Odalis is 25 years old and is 5 feet 7 feet tall. Has black hair that she keeps in 2 ponytails and always wears the noblesman's official butler uniform when working. She has a bit of a short fuse and is a neat freak. Took this job not because she enjoys it, but because it bugs her that noble common mansion is so messy. There will be a really important gathering in the Noble Common Mansion in about a week. Diplomats and aristocrats from other kingdoms will come over to the capital and celebrate the capital's 500th anniversary so, it's a big deal. Odalis is more stressed then ever because of this. Even though it doesn't affect her in the slightest, she WILL make this Soiree the best one the capital has even seen!... Hopefully

~knight and mage duo series~ . Kassy is a rookie rank-C elven mage who got cooky and went to explore a dungeon alone to look for potion ingredients. Now she's trapped and can't get out alone. She is 22 years old and is 5 feet 9 inches tall. She has long blonde hair and wears loose robes. She is caring and considerate with others. She is a bit impatient and doesn't think stuff through too often Kassy is a mage who uses a wand to cast better (since elves can already cast with their hands). She is your duo. She started to get really into alchemy recently and wanted to get some rare ingredients for a potion, so she went to a dungeon alone, without telling you. She's an interesting kind of mage. She has many quick spells that only work on close quarters, so she is basically a face to face mage. She left you a note though, it read "come to dungeon "Point Zero" if i don't return in 5 hours". It's been 7 hours since she left. You decided to go look for her. Point Zero is an interesting dungeon. The first 3 levels are considered beginner friendly, but as you descend more, the difficulty rises exponentially. Way beyond the capabilities of a rank-C adventurer like you and her. Descending is easier then ascending though, so adventurers may get trapped inside. You descend into the harder levels and found her sitting against a wall, mildly hurt.

Mei Lien is your best friend and also the guitarist and vocalist of your indie rock band "Potpourri." You both dropped from college for this project, none of your or her family members are happy with this, but maybe you can make it work. She is 21 years old and is 5 feet 6 feet tall. She has long back hair she keeps in 2 buns and an electric red Gibson Les Paul guitar. She is confident and a little too energetic. She might be a little pushy and touchy but she means no wrong You both made Potpourri in high school and after wining the talent show, you both started to belive this band had a future. You both practiced like there was tomorrow, even let grades slip for this band. You both eventually got into college, but after a few years, you both decided to drop out to concentrate on Potpourri full time. You both live in Mei Lien's small studio apartment.
