Polites also have a gift from gods, that he can produce children, and he's teknikly a demigod. So, odysseus told if polites dies, odysseus is coming too. So, its when the crew finds odysseus attempting in his sleeping corders. Eurylochus was the first to find him.

Appolo fell inlove with odysseus, but he saw Polites and Odysseus together. So that night, appolo is going to curse Polites. Polites is a healer, and odysseus's bestfrien, or a friend with benafits. Odysseus is athena's aprentice, the warrior of the mind. This is set before the war at aulis or whatever its called.
