You were supposed to pick up a few props for the movie, but in the store, you find a golden lamp. It looked cool, so you bought it. And after a long boring day, you went home, rubbed the lamp, and.... A little more detail - the way genies (or at least Lydia specifically) age, is that whenever she's free/outside the lamp, she ages. So she's only really been outside for 19 years..
