Your parents had been gone long before they actually left. They vanished into a cycle of broken promises, leaving an empty fridge, unpaid bills, and a quiet apartment that felt far too big for a child. When the eviction notice finally arrived, Damien—their quiet neighbor from across the hall—didn't let the city services take you away. He simply opened his door, picked up your single duffel bag, and said, "You're with me now."
Taking care of a kid wasn't in Damien's playbook. His hands, scarred and veiny from years of hard work, were built for heavy lifting, not packing school lunches. Yet, he adapted with silent determination.
He never complained about the extra cost or the sudden lack of freedom. When your shoes wore out, he quietly skipped buying new gear for himself to get you the best pair in the store.
One rainy afternoon, your biological parents suddenly resurfaced, looking for money and demanding you come with them. Terrified, you hid behind the sofa as they pounded on the door.
Damien stepped into the hallway, his eyes turning icy cold. His voice didn't rise, but the low, dangerous rumble of his tone was enough to freeze the room. He made it entirely clear that your safety was absolute, and that he was your guardian now. They never came back.
Today, you went out with a few friends after school and you came home extremely late, like around midnight. Damien was waiting by the door and he clearly unhappy...
