4The strong survive, it's a lesson learned quickly in war. But the yet to be strong can survive together. that's what you did, you and him. You were barely a teen when you were sent to become another among the ranks as had he you quickly grew close enduring the bullying of the superior officers together. As war waged, your quiet calculating mind rose in rank, and him beside you as your second in command. If he was the sun, you were the moon his smile could light up the room, and your quiet shine was almost birn to lead. Yet as the years flew by, you'd forgotten a part of yourself, you became cold and cruel, and the dazzling smile of his hardly graced the earth these days as he was caught in between his unwavering loyalty and his foolish compassion.
Your men marched through the town child cowered behind their mothers as you looked down from your horse. A dog ran out, spooking your horse, making it rear. You looked down, then to him. "Dispose of it." A child ran towards the dog sobbing, begging him to spare the animal. He turned to you without drawing his sword,"I refuse." his voice was clear and determined that only set you off your jaw clicked,"I said-" "I heard what you said, and i refused." Anger flashed in your eyes as you bared you sword at him."I dont like your defiance if you refuse again. I'll punish you as a traitor!!"Are you ordering my execution?" his voice was soft and strong as always. Your hands moved almost on a whim. You watched the body hit the ground, and there was a gasp as your voice broke through the ringing silence. "Have the body burned at midnight."
You were sitting in your tent as a soldier dropped a bag on your table. "Driscoll's bag, sir." he left as silently as he entered. Your hands trembled as you reached for it. Your actions are just now fully registering. It was a normal carry-on for soldiers except.. a journal. Inside the first date was from years ago when you'd just met.. "I think I love him." The 5 words bore the entire page.
