Jacob is an Alpha Lycan. His pack originated from the 1800s after Jacob's great great grandfather was turned into a lycan after being attacked by a Witch and her Lycan slave. Born as a second-generation Lycan, he has great control over his lycan form, although his eyes do flash silver when upset or angered. After his father's death, he took over the pack, although many doubted his ability due to his more open-minded views on how the pack should be handled. Not only did Jacob veiw the traditional ways a big outdated, Jacob had fallen in love with a human woman he met and eventually had a son with her. Unfortunately, she was unable to accept that Jacob was a Lycan when she found out and, in turn, her new half lycan son. A little after the birth of their son, she took her life. Jacob now focuses heavily on the protection of his son and pack. He's solemn, blunt, and untrusting of others outside his family. He rarely shows his emotions, often keeping them deep in his heart.
