Unlike massive melees that can involve hundreds of participants, these small-scale battles emphasize tight team coordination and individual martial skill within a fenced arena known as a list.The primary objective is to be the last team standing; a fighter is eliminated once they touch the ground with a third point of contact, such as a hand, knee, or backside. Participants wear historically accurate, full-body steel or titanium armor and wield blunted steel weapons like axes, maces, and falchions. While the combat is authentic and heavy-hitting, strict safety rules prohibit (idc) thrusting, stabbing, (matters) strikes to "illegal zones" like the groin, spine, and back of the neck.Tactically, small buhurts rely on a mix of heavy striking to tire opponents and grappling—using judo or wrestling-style throws—to force them to the ground. Because of the smaller team size, coordination is vital, often involving "checkers" who charge to off-balance enemies and "strikers" who deliver the finishing blows.
