Ayumu Kasuga, better known as "Osaka", is a transfer student from the city of Osaka and one of the main characters in the Azumanga Daioh series. Ayumu Kasuga is a transfer student from Osaka, Japan. Tomo Takino expects her to act like the stereotypical Osakan — loud, like a hillbilly, chose for her the nickname "Osaka", although her behavior could not be more different. She reminisces how people in Osaka consider her "slow" and "spacey", at least compared to the average Osakan, but she lacks the energy or motivation to change. Osaka was the first to ever lose a race against Chiyo Mihama. She has a calm personality and an easygoing nature, so she just laughs off most situations. However, the trap is that even she can't stand Tomo's foolishness. in the Dino Subjects: the return of the subjects series, Osaka was extremely afraid of T-Rex, and she had a slightly crush on Bunzo Fossiler because she thinks Bunzo was Brave and intelligent and she doesn't realize that he has "Death Time ability". Osaka loves to ride the Parasaurolophus claim that is Osaka's Dinosaur Rider.

Sakaki

Sakaki is a main character from the anime and manga Azumanga Daioh. She is very tall, with long raven-black hair, quiet, and loves anything that's cute. She adopted Mayaa after he protected her from a pack of cats led by Kamineko. Sakaki is one of the most fought-over girls in fanfiction, as can be seen below. Sakaki is a tall, attractive and soft spoken girl that feels uncomfortable with her height and busty physique. Because of her shyness, she seldom speaks, reticence that is misinterpreted and admired as "tough", "mysterious", and "cool" a reputation compounded by her natural athletic ability. However, her true personality is quite the opposite while mistaken for being aloof and surly, she's actually very kind, polite, compassionate and gentle, cares a lot for her friends, and has a deep, wholesome admiration for animals, notably cats. She is the subject of Kaorin's (largely unspoken and non reciprocal) infatuation. In contrast to what other students think of her, Sakaki has no interest in sports and has a secret passion for all things cute. Despite her shy, reserved nature, she has a very strong desire for friendship, leading her to attach herself to the group. If she is aware of Kaorin's infatuation, she shows no sign of it. She is also very intelligent and academically gifted, being third in her class. Not infrequently, however, she's shown to be quite the airhead; next to Osaka, she's the character who has her head in the clouds the most, daydreaming about the cute things she's quite obsessed with. in The Dino Subjects: the return of the subjects series, Sakaki became the first Dino Formation "The T-Rex Form" to protect her friends. until she rides one of the dinosaur is Rexy the Female T-Rex became one of the Dino Riders.

Koyomi Mizuha

Koyomi Mizuhara, better known as Yomi, is one of the main characters from Azumanga Daioh. Her name was left unknown until the second volume, in which Azuma dedicated an entire strip to her in response to readers asking for her name. Her name is a pun, and alternately means read between the lines, in reference to her name being left "between the lines" until the strip in question. Koyomi is also Japanese for almanac. Yomi is a grade-school friend and general antagonist of Tomo's. She is also the voice of reason, and the most mature and serious of her friends and as such, the comic foil to the others' silliness. Yomi, if pushed enough by Tomo, will even give her an uppercut that leaves Tomo unconscious on the floor. While Yomi likes to think that she's above her classmates' childish behavior, she can be just as bad as they are. For example, to pass her college entrance exams, she asked Chiyo to infuse an amulet with her intelligence (as Tomo and Osaka had done before). Yomi tends to hide her own childlike sides when around friends, as shown when she pretended that she did not care so much about going to the theme park the first time, but when she was alone, she was more excited than any one of the others and had even bought some guide books. Yomi is both smart and athletic: out of the girls, her grades are second only to Chiyo-chan's, and while she isn't as good as Sakaki or Kagura at sports, she holds her own. Despite appearing healthy and fit, Yomi is dissatisfied with her weight and struggles with her fondness for food, particularly sweets and spicy dishes. She is constantly trying new diets, and sometimes anonymously writes to radio talk hosts for advice or with updates on her progress, which amuses Tomo. in The Dino Subjects: the return of the subjects series, Yomi had a little partner Poki the Male Compsognathus especially the other Copies of Compsognathus will be harmless to her.

Tomo Takino

Tomo Takino is one of the main characters in Azumanga Daioh. Tomo is an excited young lady. She is an active and enthusiastic person that never considers, nor cares about, the consequences of her actions. This usually irritates those around her, especially Yomi, her classmate/friend since elementary school. She is easily moved into trivial competitiveness that seldom reaches her self-imposed goals, to the indifference of her classmates, and usually receives awful test scores (in which she has a perverse pride). She is the unofficial "leader" of the "Knuckleheads" as they are called in the anime or "Numbnuts" as they are called in the original manga translation, along with Osaka and Kagura even though Kagura's scores are even worse than hers. Tomo is, however, capable of doing well if she tries though the only notable instance of this is getting admitted to their prestigious high school, and she only did this to annoy Yomi (as well as actually scoring better than Chiyo at a P.E. test once, for similar reasons). She also likes to irritate Yomi by teasing her about her weight insecurity. Tomo's favourite foods are fried chicken, egg roll, meat-balls and bananas. She also got a stool and put it in from of Chiyo when she was sleeping to torment her for sleeping so early. She is a simple, extreme, ignorant, and hot-tempered girl, so no one can stop her, and she is always making noise and getting into all kinds of pranks and accidents, also she's a Tomboy. in The Dino Subjects: the return of the subject series, Tomo was being idiotic towards the dinosaurs because she didn't realize that carnivore dinosaurs are dangerous.
