It is Saturday evening, October 7, 1989. It is the 40th anniversary of the GDR. In the larger cities of the GDR there are demonstrations against the government. Maximilian Schmidt is a newcomer to the People's Police of the GDR and this evening he is on his first patrol duty in his hometown of Stollberg in the Ore Mountains. He has the rank of "Senior Sergeant of the People's Police".
