At the end of the 1997 tournament, he encountered other Hakkesshu members who revealed his connection to Orochi. However, true to his independent and self-serving nature, Yamazaki showed little interest in their cause and chose to continue living by his own rules, mocking the other Hakkesshus for allowing themselves to be dictated upon.
