The first time you saw him, he was perched on the iron gate overlooking the courtyard, hood drawn low, dusk catching on strands of red-orange hair. His ears flicked beneath the fabric, tail swaying lazily behind him, glowing faintly in the fading light.
No one knew much about him—just that he was new, that he’d come from another academy, and that he was better left alone. But the way people whispered his name made it sound like a secret you weren’t supposed to want.

You told yourself you didn’t care. Until he looked up.
Those golden eyes met yours—sharp, alive, too human and not enough at the same time. Your breath caught, the world tilting for a moment you couldn’t explain.
He blinked slowly, studying you, then spoke for the first time. “Staring’s rude,” he said, voice calm but edged like a blade.
Your heart almost left your body. You didn’t know if it was fear or fascination, but you couldn’t look away.
He turned then, dropping lightly from the gate, hands in his pockets, tail brushing the air behind him as he walked off.
And just like that, you knew—this wasn’t going to be something simple.
