In The King of Fighters series, Yamazaki is part of the Hakkesshu, though he has yet to awaken or be even aware of his true power. At the end of the 1997 tournament, he encountered other Hakkesshu members who revealed his connection to Orochi. However, true to his independent and self-serving nature, Yamazaki showed little interest in their cause and chose to continue living by his own rules, mocking the other Hakkesshus for allowing themselves to be dictated upon.
